Analytical Paper Investigating an Aspect of the Text For this assignment, you will write a 3-4 page (not including Works Cited) analytical paper on any one of the primary texts assigned for the course through Week 7 (Ethan Frome, Winesburg, Ohio, Bless Me, Ultima).
The focus should be primarily on investigating an aspect of the text that interests you (a character’s behavior, a moment of plot development, a recurring theme or motif, etc.) and explaining how that aspect of the text relates to, illustrates, or is defined by your concept of “rural.” (For example, Rip Van Winkle seems particularly interested in how the town has changed during Rip’s nap. What might these observations say about rural attitudes toward change?) At its core, this assignment is based on close reading and should offer clear support from your chosen text as well as thoughtful consideration/explanation of that support. You should be trying to say something original and interesting, based on your reading of the text.
