The Intern
This project will be organized into the following (Use the bold face labels as headings for your paper and
presentation):
1. Case Study: Develop a case study in which you describe the group dynamics and processes as detailed
in the movie, The Intern (see: https://www.warnerbros.com/intern). The case study should provide a narrative of the group behavior within the organization, NOT a summary of the movie (1-2 pages).
2. Analysis: (must address) – This section should be supported with current scholarly literature from
within the last 7 years (2-4 pages):
a. Summarize the purpose and membership of the group.
b. Track the development of this group through Tuckman’s stages. What signaled to you each stage?
c. What are the roles, goals, tasks, values, and relationships of this group? Thoroughly explain.
d. What determines status in the group? Why?
e. How does the group make decisions? Is this a useful process? Why?
f. Is “groupthink” prevalent in this group? Describe the impact.
g. Did this group transition to a “team”? If so, what tells you it is a team? If not, explain what prevented
them from transitioning to a team.
h. Other key factors.
3. Application: From your analysis of the case, what were the strengths and the weaknesses of the
group? As HRD practitioners what are some ways you would have interfaced with the group? Explain
your reasoning and support your position(s) with concepts (a minimum of eight (8) concepts) reviewed
during class, posted material, and from your text readings as the core of your paper – cite your work (2- 4 pages).
4. Conceptualization: What are the key ideas that you have learned about groups from this case? In your
narrative for this section, you should include insights that increased your understanding of group theory
and group behavior in organizations (1-2 pages).
5. Group Processes: This part of the paper is your reflection of your experience as a group – to be
written together. Describe relevant processes of working on this project together. Did you work as a
group or a team? Explain your position using what you’ve learned about the groups and teams from
class. Support your position(s) with current scholarly literature (2-3 pages).
6. References: At least 4 in addition to your text.
