Public or Private information
Where do you fall in this debate:
Internet profiles are a private right and therefore should be off-limits for an employer to access (Even if set as searchable, public profiles) during the interview stage.
Internet profiles are generally public access and therefor fit within the “small town” presumption; allowing a reasonable assumption that employers might access it’s content and subsequently use the information as basis for discrimination during the hiring process.
Your stance should come from the background of whether you understand social media accounts to be public or private domain, and whether or not access to such content is akin to the kind of access to information an employer would have in an in-person interview with a candidate.
