Africana studies- Indian ocean research
This is a 20 page research paper on the Indian ocean world and the historical role of African women during the 18th-19th centuries.
The migrations of African-descended people has been documented and misconstrued throughout history for centuries. Africans have been traveling, both forced and voluntarily, through the Indian Ocean world for much longer than the documentation of the modern Atlantic slave trade. Along the eastern coast of Africa, countries such as Mozambique and Tanzania the import and export of many slaves occurred. It is the dynamic within these slave households maintained by women that is peculiar in a sense. Their gender role and overall influence and the complex of their agency in the context of slavery within the Indian ocean world is the topic of research.
