Child Psychology Research Paper
1) You will select one research question for your literature review paper. For
example, you could use any of these topics:
• Discuss how child temperament and behaviour may influence
parenting styles and strategies.
• Discuss how stress and conflict, the parent-child relationship, and
children’s development (academic, social, emotional) are all related
• Discuss the difference between behavioural and psychological control
and how each affects children’s development.
• Family Function and It’s Affect Upon Adolescence
• Family Studies/Effects of Intimate Relationships on Adolescents
• Effects of Birth order on children’s development
• The effects of parental mental health and/or psychiatric disorders on
a child’s development
2) Second, find at least 10-12 empirical research articlesfrom peer reviewed journals
(not opinion articles, not theoretical articles), which address the issue that you
selected. Generally, you are looking for articles in which a group of people was
sampled, statistical analyses were run on the data, and conclusions are made
based on the data and not someone’s personal opinions.
If you are not sure whether or not the articles you selected are empirical, bring
contact me via e-mail. Please note you must support your topic by writing about
a minimum of 10 articles published within the last 10 years.
3) This is a literature review, which means it should have the following:
A literature review is essential in researching a topic to determine what is current in the field.
The importance of a literature review is it teaches students to evaluate and report on the main ideas of a particular subject area using synthesis.
Synthesizing information is not summarizing each article, but rather organizing the information by each main points of the larger topic
Asking questions such as the following will help you sift through your sources and organize your literature review.
Remember, the literature review organizes the previous research in the light of what you are planning to do in your own project.
9 • What’s been done in this topic area to date? What are the significant discoveries, key concepts, arguments, and/or theories that scholars have put
forward? Which are the important works?
• On which particular areas of the topic has previous research concentrated?
Have there been developments over time? What methodologies have been used?
• Are there any gaps in the research? Are there areas that haven’t been looked at closely yet, but which should be? Are there new ways of looking at the
topic?
• Are there improved methodologies for researching this subject?
• What future directions should research in this subject take?
How will your research build on or depart from current and previous research on the topic? What contribution will your research make to the field?
Miscellaneous paper specifications:
1. Papers must be typed and double-spaced with reasonable margins,
MUST USE APA FORMAT!!
2. Use a reasonably sized font, at a minimum a 12-point Times or Times New Roman looks most professional.
3. Assign a title to your paper which will be centered with your name. student ID, course code, Professor’s name, and University of Windsor
4. Assign a Running head in the top left corner
5. Assign a page number in the top right corner starting on the title page
6. Include a reference page(s). References (both at the end and throughout the paper) must be done using APA format (look in the APA Publication Manual).

7. The review paper should contain only five (5):
i. Introduction
ii. Literature Review
iii. Conclusion
iv. Future Research
v. References
8. Papers should be between 10 to 15 (including reference pages)
9. Read the rubric and grading criteria for this assignment. Make sure you answer each question carefully.
10. Papers will be graded according to how well they are written, relate to the assignment, and the ways in which ideas and concepts are linked together with your topic. Late papers will be reduced by 10 points per day late including weekends.
