Summarize each paper in no more than one page
Write an integrative summary of all the papers and explain how the papers are connected. This means that the papers your select must address the same theme or issues. For example, comparing the Medelin Cartel and the other organized drug dealing cartel for cocaine.
These papers may be from the academic literature or current news on drug controls, the drug war, history of illicit or psychoactive drugs or drug policies from anywhere in the world.
Finally, the documents you cite must include research papers, magazine articles, newspaper article (5 pages long) or government policy documents published during the last 10 years.
The bibliographical selection may address topics from the examples listed below:
- Comparative international policies
- Historical analysis of policies in different countries
- Socio-Economic analysis of drug policies
- Social and Psychological Issues of Drug Use and Policies
- The Politics and Economics the War on Drugs
- International Drug Cartels and their Activities / Violence and Corruption
- European colonialism and the drug trade in history
- Foreign Trade and the History of Drugs (Opium and Cocaine)
The Professor will look at the following to determine grading:
- Issue – Does the student state and explain the issue(s) or problem and explain all of the terms associated with the issue?
- Evidence – Is the argument well supported by evidence? Is evidence used effectively – Does the student use examples and quotes from the text?
- Context – Does the student explain the set of circumstances that surround the issue?
- Student’s Position/Analysis – Does the student analyze the issue? Does the student provide a valid argument supporting their position and counterargument? Does the paper make an original contribution or insight?
- Conclusion – The student restates the position they have taken according to the issue being discussed and explains why the audience should care by synthesizing the information already presented.
- Organization – Is the paper structured in logical way?
- Mechanics and style. Is the paper free of spelling and grammar errors? Is it clearly written?
- Finally, he will give additional extra credit for students who produce an outline of your paper by Wednesday.
