Importance of Orientalism Category for Analysis This course is about the Asian culture. We learnt about the colonial histories of China, Japan, India and Vietnam.
We have read Monkey, Midnight’s Children and Strangers From a Different Shore: A History of Asian Americans. We also watched the film “Gandhi“; The professor wants us to talk about those books and film. In addition, she does not want us to use materials other than those she talked about in class. Since 1978 when Prof. Edward W. Said published his groundbreaking work, Orientalism, scholars of Orientalism have expanded and refined the meaning of the notion of Orientalism, and in the course of things they have created literally hundreds of terms to describe particular Orientalisms.
