Major events in world history
Within the space of an 11×17 page, present a visual story, using pictures and text, of one person in your family or “community” (a friend, an elder, someone you know) whose experiences intersected with major events in world history described in this course. Your visual story should have the following components (with the text either IN the image or as a separate page):
. 1) stories from your conversations with this person – (100 words) ?
. 2) a picture or image (or sketch) of the person w/ caption ?
. 3) a picture of an object related to this history w/ caption
– could be something owned by the person that she/he can share ?
– a precious personal memento ?
– an artifact such as a medal, old toy, locket, etc. ?
– a photo ?
– anything this person has saved, but can be visually represented ?
– do not borrow this object, do take a picture of it (if permissible) ?
. 4) textual description of the object, explaining how it relates to the story – (50 words) ?
. 5) textual explanation, how the story enriches our understanding of a world history ?event, trend or period. (100-200 words) ?
. 6) two images, public domain, describing an associated world history event ?w/ caption, source info ?
Tips
(1) Be specific. Don’t relate great grandpa Jo’s war story to “World War II.” Relate it to a specific battle, a part of the global conflict.
. (2) Branch out from “war stories.” Think about other stories, Great Acceleration, economic miracle, nuclear age, mass media, Middle East, women in Third World political movements, etc. ?
. (3) Let your artistic freak flag fly, but make sure you nail down the components. ?
. (4) Don’t be TOO wordy! USE THE IMAGES AND THEIR LOCATION ON THE PAGE TO TELL ?THE STORY. ?
(5) You do NOT have to produce this digitally, but you do need to take a digital pic and submit the assignment as a .pdf or .jpg.
