For this Discussion Board, keep in mind the movie The New Asylums. Choose a case from the last five years where a mentally ill individual was involved in some capacity with ineffective police. Discuss the factors involved in the case including: why the police were called in the first place, who was involved, what crime was committed, what mental illness the individual had and what are the guidelines in New York City for handling mentally disturbed people. What factors influenced the commission of the crime or the individual becoming out of control? Lastly, try to tie your case back to the movie The New Asylums and some of the issues that they discussed. Find peer-reviewed articles that support your claims, and if you are not able to you may use newspaper articles or other reputable sources, please avoid tabloid or other social media sources that may not be fact-based or may be inaccurate. Response should be up to 500 words in length. The level of writing for these should be academic and should include in-text citations and references (from peer-reviewed journals) in APA format. These should not be uninformed opinions, but rather should be thoughtful reflections. Make sure when formatting you use appropriate paragraph formation.
