Metaphors of Culture
Why did you say that? This assignment is based on the notion that metaphors are symbolically situated artifacts in and through which people make meaning. After reading Overuses’ “Metaphor, Language, and culture” and after viewing the “Metaphors of Culture” on the Communication Blog, choose one of the cultural metaphors given (or research others) that deal with various global contexts like identity construction, international human rights, globalization, etc. Do you believe there is such thing as a universal metaphor, one that can be understood and supported by people from all cultures? Explain your response.
