Music Lesson Observation
You will need to observe a Music Lesson for at least 10- 15 minutes.
When you go to visit the school, remember that you’re there as an observer – you should not introduce any activities and should interact with the children as minimally as possible.
During your observation, write down the following:
1. What is the name of the school, program, or website?
2. How many adults and children are in the room?
3. How many girls are present and how many boys?
4. If there is more than one adult, what is each adult’s role?
5. What is the name of the song(s) being used?
6. Is the teacher singing on their own or is there use of recorded music?
7. Are there musical instruments being used? If so name them.
8. Can you see instruments being displayed in the classroom? If so where are they placed in the classroom and name each instrument.
9. Are children able to use musical instruments independently?
10. How does the teacher introduce the lesson?
11. What are the teachers and children saying and doing?
12. What is being taught?
13. What is being learned?
14. What is the overall tone and feel of the classroom like? Do the children seem comfortable and content? Are the children singing along or listening to the words?
