Photojournalist
The student will select a photojournalist of their choice and write a 1000-word critical essay on that person’s life and work. The essay should focus on the main ideas, stories, and experiences the photographer is trying to share with their audience and how they achieve that. Using critical photographic analysis developed in classroom critiques and the context of visual devices and storytelling, the essay must select, analyze and discuss at least three different photos that serve as examples to the arguments. Proper captions are required for all photos.
Photojournalism is the process of story telling using the medium of photography as your main story telling device. While a journalist will use their pen and paper to tell stories, photojournalists will use their camera to capture the visual representation of a story.
