Social Forces that Shaped America The final paper should cite the class lectures and readings, including the textbook, to outline at least two of the major social movements since World War II, the kinds of activities they engaged in, how they interacted with government and media to promote their causes, and what goals were achieved.
Pick two and compare them to draw general conclusions about how social change happens in the American system. Optional: spend a page or so on a contemporary movement that you have participated in or read about, placing its aims or methods into historical context.
Among the social movements you could cover are: the Civil Rights movement, the student movement/free speech movement, the movement against the Vietnam War, and the gender rights movements (feminism and gay rights) as well as the conservative movement of the 1970s-80s.
The essay should be 6 to 8 pages, double-spaced, plus bibliography or works cited page. Use concrete examples. Please proof-read your work.
