In this course we will review the sociological framework and history of the ethnic groups that make up America and to understand the society as it is today. We will define and discuss the concept of culture and ethnicity in its context and study the implications of the social construction of race. We will explore socially accepted ideas of what it means to be a minority in American. Controversial topics, such as affirmative action, and theories of discrimination, culture vs. race, will be discussed and analyzed.
