SOCIAL MEDIA PERSUASION
Mark Zuckerberg is known for his Facebook success, being the co-founder, CEO, and Chairman of the Board of FB. Yet a day that “lives in infamy” was March 9, 2008 at the South by Southwest Conference (SXSW). After reading the information about the Zuckerberg-Lacy interview in Chapter 2, read the CNET article and the Wired article that were contemporaneous. Then watch this short video with Lacy’s response to the fallout (If you cannot view the video below, please visit http://www.youtube.com/v/ccLJnICdJGI?version=3&hl=en_US&rel=0 to access directly).
Once you complete your reading and viewing, write a 250+ word response that addresses the role that social media played on that day and beyond (i.e. the discussion during and afterwards). Who was at fault? Was it the interviewer? Mark Zuckerberg? The audience? The Twitter verse? All of the above? What sort of persuasive impact did Twitter (or other social media) have in causing conflict – or in allowing the audience to express themselves?
Initial posts must be 250+ words, using correct grammar and spellcheck, posted by Thursday 11:55 p.m. ET each week. Part of the requirement for a substantive post is to bring something new to the conversation. Read the forum prompt and fully answer it, demonstrate understanding of the lesson/content, include evidence from firsthand experience, reference to the course materials, and apply what you’re discussing to work, life, and reality.
