Uchicago Essay

Coming from a Small City In India, my Aspirations are Massive. I would love to use every opportunity possible to learn and socialize for my personal growth and my economic growth. I always felt that U.S is the land of opportunity but after arriving here, I couldn’t figure out how, Until Now! UChicago provides the essence which I was looking for in my College Life, the ability to do and learn whatever I want with the support of the college. My Love for UChicago actually started when I received a Letter from Professor _____________ of Harvard University. I love going for talks related and unrelated to my field, I’m pretty nerdy that way. I always used to send letters to these professors, engage in conversation in an attempt to receive access to their research, but we all know how it ends, and after receiving that letter from Harvard, it made me realize. I have to move to another university for my personal growth, and among the colleges I researched about my top choice is UChicago. I’m a very inquisitive person and I love discoursing with faculty members, and chatting with professors on how they became who they are both Academically and Professionally and I would love to do the same over there which I guarantee will enable me to have thought provoking abilities, an necessity to be the best in any field. If gained admission, one of the first professors I would love to have these “conversation street” chats is with Professor Raghuram Rajan.
I embrace Challenges, be it mental or physical and the unique “Core” Curriculum of Uchicago which my peers find challenging to understand, has only put me more into the quirkiness this college only possess. I want to challenge myself and find out my extreme, and try to break it and reach the next extreme, a possibility I feel which will be a reality if accepted here. Boys would love to be successful, but men loves to change history , and I would like to be that man.

Last Month, I was invited by the Economics Club here At Indiana University to participate for the UChicago’s Oeconomica Econometrics Game, but due to unforeseen circumstances the plan was cancelled. I wasn’t discouraged, infact it poured kerosene on the burning fire within me to enter into your prestigious university and be the nerdiest among the nerds in the University. All in all I am Proud To Be A Nerd and likewise will be proud to call UChicago my Alma-Mater.
How does the University of Chicago, as you know it now, satisfy your desire for a particular kind of learning, community, and future? Please address with some specificity your own wishes and how they relate to UChicago?

Despite growing up in a small town in India, I have always had big dreams and massive aspirations. I believe in taking up chances, finding solutions, and bettering society. Consequently, I feel that education is the key to growth both at a personal level and the world level. Throughout my life, I always have strived to work hard in School and achieve high GPAs in a bid to excel and improve the quality of my life as well as the community around me. Furthermore, I am a goal oriented individual, who has always believed that the USA is the land of opportunities. Hence, I have always socialized with various intellectuals in the USA via emails, as I tried to engage them on the various research they are conducting to increase my knowledge. It was through these letters that I learned of UChicago when Professor ________ of Harvard University gave me an insight into the institution. I made it my goal to work hard, move to the USA and pursue my studies in the institution.

First, I felt that the Professors here are very engaging and friendly. Additionally, they are very professional, and knowledgeable which makes it an ideal institution for one to learn and increase their knowledge. Accordingly, one is assured of continued support and guidance as they conduct their research. I am an inquisitive individual and love to discourse with the faculty members on both academic and non-academic matters. I believe that this helps build a wholesome individual who is all rounded and able to tackle various problems in the world. Among the professors I am looking forward to meeting if given admission is Professor Raghuram Rajan, who I believe will help me grow in my field.

Additionally, I love challenges and believe that we as humans are tasked with finding solutions. Therefore, I never shy away from the different challenges I am faced with. I believe that in joining the institution, I will have stepped out of my comfort zone and meet similarly minded individuals, some with abilities better than mine, whom we may work to build each other and succeed. Moreover, being an international student, I would love to meet with the various international students within the institution and find their various perspectives and outlook to various phenomena. I believe that diversity creates an ideal environment to help develop individuals and make them better individuals.

Although I missed out an opportunity to participate in UChicago’s Oeconomica Econometrics Games in the previous month, I have always kept my dreams alive and worked hard in my studies to gain admission into the prestigious institution. I am looking forward to joining some of the World’s brightest minds and help solve some of the problems facing society.

Q2) Imagine you’ve struck a deal with the Dean of Admissions himself, Dean Nondorf. It goes as follows: you’re guaranteed admission to the University of Chicago regardless of any circumstances that arise. This bond is grounded on the condition that you’ll obtain a blank, 8.5 x 11 piece of paper, and draw, write, sketch, shade, stencil, paint etc., anything and everything you want on it; your only limitations will be the boundaries of both sides on the single page. Now the catch… your submission, for the rest of your life, will always be the first thing anyone you meet for the first time will see. Whether it’s at a job interview, a blind date, arrival at your first Humanities class, before you even say, “hey,” they’ll already have seen your page, and formulated that first impression. Show us your page. What’s on it, and why? If your piece is largely or exclusively visual, please make sure to share a creator’s accompanying statement of at least 300 words, which we will happily allow to be on its own, separate page.
You read the front page, and now you are like “Why am I seeing this?” Well, my fellow human, you are in luck! As I am going to make your interesting day even more interesting. We are going to play “THE GUESSING GAME.” Sorry Interviewers due to your substantial knowledge about me already you are unable to play, but please be my guest to tag along.
I am your Host, Neil Jolly Malayil and this is a thought-provoking session of who I might be. You may not know me yet, but after this, I am sure to increase your curiosity. But before that, I am pretty sure you would love to know why you are viewing this paper all of a sudden. Well, my friend, I had made a deal with the devil himself, and he’s not your typical devil. (I’m joking he is not a devil, he’s the dean of UChicago) Instead of taking away my soul for admission, our agreement is the paper in front of you. Yup, We all have our ways to Introduce ourselves, and this is mine. Pretty Creepy Right?
Now let’s start the Guessing Game! On Page 1 you see this very odd looking sheet! (The Body Of David Beckham + The Brains of Neil deGrysse Tyson + The Comedy of Kevin Hart ? Me) So why have I done this? Well, you have been staring at this paper for a good minute now, but did you ever think why is there so much Blue in the front page? Is it because I want to get your attention? Is it because I’m very cool as blue on the outside yet black as Kevin Hart’s Tee within? Or maybe it is just my favorite color? Maybe I have the inquisitive like Neil deGrysse Tyson but is cool as a cucumber like David’s looks? Maybe I’m not as expressive in showing my emotions like the photo in the right, or maybe I am? Maybe I love to be unique like how the image on the right is different in every way from the others?

Now you’re starting to get the game, aren’t you? “Haven’t you heard the saying Do Not Judge A Book by its cover.” This is exactly that. Shocking, isn’t it? You may wonder, Wow! is he the next thought-provoking artist such as Banksy, spoiler alert, I’m not. My drawing of the Bird is still the alphabet “ V.”
