I’m considering using Chronic Pain by concept analysis using Walker and Avant model, as the first step of my DNP project based on my PICOT question: For Primary care providers at my clinical location, does the implementation of the CDC Guideline for Prescribing Opioids for Chronic Pain (Dowell, Haegerich, & Chou, 2016), compared to no protocol impact improving the safety and effectiveness of pain treatment in eight weeks?

Defining chronic pain in this specific CDC scenario is a key aspect of this project, I’m expecting to provide the necessary tools to my colleagues about the necessary interventions handling this patient based on the actual value of what is considered an “opioid epidemic”. This intervention will directly respond to the VI Essential of DNP Interprofessional Collaboration for Improving Patient and Population Health Outcomes (AACN DNP Essentials, 2006).
