Pact Urban Restorative Program Canada Task: Choose any currently operating restorative justice program (Canadian or International). Using what you have learned over the course of this semester, complete each of the headings below.
1. Background – 2-3 pages (6 points)
- Overview of Restorative Justice (for a recap, see material from Weeks 1-4).
- This section is to be written in a way that a layperson (i.e., a person who does have any prior knowledge of restorative justice) can understand.
Notes: Do not over cite lecture material (Up to 5 max. for the entire paper).
o Remember that your professors use a range of reputable sources to supplement their lecture slides (e.g., course textbooks, peer-review journal articles, books, government reports etc.,) so you the onus is on you (for all papers, as a general rule) to do your own research to find comparable evidence.
o You WILL be penalized for over citing lecture material and/or over citing from a small number of sources throughout the paper.
o Moral of the story: make good use of all of the min. 10 sources required by this paper (see final paper checklist on next page).
2. Selected Program – 3-4 pages (9 points)
- Provide an overview of the program (history, scope, programming) as well as its strengths and weaknesses.
- Critically examine how “restorative” the program really is based on what we have learned over the duration of the course.
NOTE: The new title of this section will be the actual name of your chosen program.
3. Efficacy – 3-4 pages (9 points)
- Review any evaluative research on the program (This requires a comprehensive
search to see if any exist -googling alone will not suffice). - Do existing studies adequately measure the success of the program? Can follow- up studies provide a more comprehensive account of the programs’ success?
- Hint: Review Week 10 for ideas.
- If no evaluation studies exist on the program, propose a clear and detailed plan for how to evaluate the programs’ success.
4. Pact Urban Restorative Program Canada Discussion (Next Steps) – 2-3 pages (6 points)
- Discuss what is needed going forward to address any current limitations of
the program and/or to expand upon its strengths. - If you had limitless resources, how do you envision the program to expand to fulfill all the core values of restorative justice?
