Parents and Children Shakespeare Essay Choose from one of the following topics:
1) Discuss the power relations between generations (parents and children) in Hamlet, King Lear, and Othello.
2) Read over Sonnet 94. Then, using the ideas of power (and its restrained use) outlined in that poem, consider the relations between power and forgiveness in Othello, King Lear, and Measure for Measure.
3) " By indirections find directions out." Discuss the ways in which this directive (from Polonius to Reynaldo) guides the actions of the major
players in Hamlet, both in the court of Denmark — Hamlet, Polonius, Claudius, Gertrude, Laertes — and elsewhere (Fortinbras).
I am leaving the choice of topic to the author. No outside sources are required but can be added if necessary.
