This essay asks you to provide an overview of a specific problem currently faced. This could be a large scale issue (global warming, modern slavery, etc.) or a local issue (Oklahoma having the lowest paid teachers in the country, Oklahoma as the worst ranked foster care system in the country, etc.). You will be working with this issue in some form throughout the term, so consider why this issue is important to you. In this essay, you will be asked to summarize the issue, and explain its causes, its effects, why it matters, who is trying to fix it, and some proposed solutions. You must also plant a naysayer in your paper (someone who disagrees with your perspective). You must have a minimum of four sources (though more sources would be helpful), a proper MLA Works Cited page, and in-text citations. You must also have at least two types of visual grammar present (images, logos, diagrams, charts, etc.).
