Religious Site Visit and Worship Service Paper Students will select one worship service to attend at some point throughout the Semester. This worship service must be markedly different than the student’s usual religious context.
For example: if a student regularly attends a Baptist Church, he or she cannot select a Presbyterian one. After attending the worship service, students will write a 4-6 page (double-spaced) paper that describes the experience. In this paper, students should pay careful attention to architecture, sacred space and place, worshipers, clothing, music, smells, and other sensory experiences when participating in the worship service. This paper should also include a description for how these elements serve a religious purpose for the given religious context. It is a good idea to compare and contrast the site visit to one’s own religious context in whichever way that might present itself; i.e. even if you don’t attend a worship service regularly, you can still provide a general reference point to religious services.
