Art 1-You are writing a 1-2 page report on a book of choice. You may read any true story about, or by, a former victim of child abuse or domestic violence. First, describe the types of abuse that occurred in the story and any societal or social justice issues that allowed the abuse to occur. Please make it very clear when you are discussing your social issues. I am less interested in individual family dynamics, and more in how society at large factored into the abuse (i.e. how abuse was viewed treated, or impacted by the culture or socioeconomic environment in which it occurred?). Next, you need to discuss what would have been the best way to prevent the abuse that ties into the societal issues that you chose. For example, if the abuse was impacted by social values, the media, poverty, underreporting, or substance abuse; what changes on a societal level could have helped prevent the abuse? You can include any information that you feel is relevant from “The Love Talk” as well as material presented in your text, readings or lectures. Make sure that you do include information you have learned from this class in your analysis of social or cultural factors.
