Essay on Career Prospects Assignment

Essay on Career Prospects
  Essay on Career Prospects

Essay on Career Prospects

You will be required to submit a PROPOSAL, with both an OUTLINE and an ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY, worth 5%. The outline should identify your career choice and summarize the key points you will be making in your essay (in 1-2 pages using point form); and the annotated bibliography should identify and describe at least 5 sources of material, with a couple of sentences describing why each source is relevant or useful for your paper. Your bibliography must be done in a proper academic format.

The outline should identify your career choice and briefly (in a few sentences) describe your approach. (Although such exploratory essays do not require a thesis, you might say the research question Is “Why do you want to be a… [lawyer or nurse, etc]?” and your thesis could be “I want to be a lawyer in order to help defend the wrongly accused”– or “it best suits my argumentative personality”, or “my desire for high status and income”…) It should then summarize some of the key points you will be making in your essay (in 1-2 pages – you can use point form).
Your “annotated bibliography” should offer a list of FIVE (5) sources done in proper academic format. Use the style agreed upon for your tutorial (eg. APA or MLA…), making sure that you include all the elements required and use the proper punctuation. (see, for example, Van Rys et al, Writing Life, Ch 25 on MLA and Ch 26 on APA)
For each source, include a few sentences describing how or why that source will be useful for your essay. Don’t just go online and look up a list of library materials. You will have to examine each source to see if it is useful or irrelevant – eg. NOT books from the 1960’s about computer programming, or articles about being a lawyer in the USA… (see Van Rys et al, Writing Life, pp. 418-423 on “Engaging and Evaluating Sources” and “Annotate the Sources”)

Science Unit Plan: Differentiation and Accommodation Science Unit Plan: Differentiation and Accommodation

The third step in planning a unit plan is to prepare how you will differentiate and accommodate instruction for your students to meet their specific learning needs.

Differentiation and accommodations are some of the most important components when preparing a unit plan, because it guides the teacher in meeting the diverse needs of all students during instruction. The planning process will help the teacher determine when to differentiate and make accommodations. It is critical for teachers to observe or review academic data in order to appropriately differentiate for their students.

Part 1: Differentiation – Unit Plan
For this assignment, you will complete the Differentiation and Accommodation portion for the “Science Unit Plan” to prepare for students that are below, average, and advanced in academic ability.
Use the “Class Profile” as you are determining differentiation strategies and appropriate accommodations:
Differentiation strategies and learning opportunities that effectively address student’ learning needs identified in the “Class Profile.”
Resources and instructional adaptations to support specific differentiation needs, including testing accommodations required to meet students’ needs.
The details of the “Science Unit Plan” will continue to be fully developed and revised throughout the duration of the course, culminating in a complete unit plan due in Topic 5.

Part 2: Reflection
In 250-500 words, summarize and reflect on the process of planning for differentiation strategies in order to meet the diverse needs of students in the science content area. What issues might arise that would need additional emphasis in the event differentiation was not effective? What resources or support staff could you utilize to meet specific differentiation needs?
Support your reflection with at least two scholarly resources.
Submit the “Science Unit Plan” and reflection as one deliverable.
While APA format is not required for this assignment, solid academic writing is expected, in-text citations and references should be presented using APA documentation guidelines, which can be found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center.

Although the First Amendment generally prevents the U.S. government from engaging in censorship, an exception exists for broadcast radio and television. Unlike cable and satellite programming, which requires viewers and listeners to “opt in” with a paid subscription to access content, broadcast radio and television use the public airwaves to carry transmissions that are readily accessible for free by anyone with a television or a radio. In 1973, in a case involving comedian George Carlin’s “Dirty Words” monologue, the Supreme Court held that although the monologue wasn’t obscene, the government (through the Federal Communications Commission, or FCC) could nonetheless regulate indecent material when vulnerable listeners, such as children, may be listening.

Do you believe that in some instances the Government should have the ability to regulate information that is given to the public, or does this action an unlawful interference or overreach by governmental authorities?

Gender roles in the Sixteenth Century

Gender roles in the Sixteenth Century
Gender roles in the Sixteenth Century

Essay One: Gender roles in the Sixteenth Century

In this essay the goal is to analyze several brief satirical plays or dialogues about male and female gender roles within the patriarchal household in the sixteenth century. You may choose two of the three plays by Hans Sachs, and/or the Colloquy by Erasmus.

This essay should be about 750 words, or about three pages, typed and double-spaced (in 12 point font). All essays should have a clearly stated argumentative thesis supported by textual evidence. Each essay should have an introduction, body and conclusion. You can use quotes from the plays (be sure to put the page number in parentheses after the quote), but the quotes should not be too long. Provide an interpretation of the quote as well.

You may choose to focus on either the male or female roles in your essay, but either one should be considered within the context of the patriarchal household. You can discuss both male and female roles of course but it might be wiser to go into greater depth about one or the other. These are satirical works, meaning that they use exaggeration and irony in developing their themes. What do the plays tell us about the ideals and expectations for men’s and/or women’s behavior, particularly within marriage? What responsibilities did each have within the household? What types of misbehavior do the plays emphasize? What do the plays suggest are the key problems facing the patriarchal household?

It would be helpful to consider these issues within the context of what you have been reading regarding women’s roles in the textbook and in the article by Merry Wiesner. One suggestion is to consider whether there were any conflicts among the ideal traits expected of women and/or men?

This assignment helps you learn how to interpret primary sources, while deepening your understanding of ideas about gender in the early modern period.
