Political violence in Brazil

Here is a checklist to help ensure everyone’s term project will meet the minimum requirements for the course.

I ask that everyone read, re-read and re-re-read the full set of directions as well. If you just follow each step carefully, you will be fine. If you fail to meet the minimum requirements, you will not receive a grade for this assignment.

Term project checklist:

1. Read the questions that you need to answer carefully. Here they are, from the syllabus:

What are the different roles of violence in a political system, both in maintaining a particular political order and in bringing about political change?
When is violence more likely to be resorted to and why might it succeed? Is it sometimes necessary?

Your analysis should include discussions of contemporary problems in one specific political system, different ways the government authorities may resort to force, and the political culture of the selected state.
What are the potential resolutions to end the violence in the selected case study?

2. Include a visual component to your essay. This assignment requires the following visual elements from a scholarly source to communicate information:

A chart or graph must be fully described, explained, and applied to the essay topic in order to connect the essay argument(s) to the chart or graph.

Use of a visual image from an outside source to communicate information. The image must be fully described, explained, and applied to the essay topic in order to connect the essay argument(s) to the image.

Remember to fully cite in your bibliography where your chart, graph, or image came from.

3. Speaking of bibliographies, the sources for this project must be 3 peer-reviewed journal articles, they must have more than 5 pages of actual content and must be less than 10 years old (2007-2017).

You cannot use a government study, legislation, website, newspaper, or news magazine as a primary source for this project. You can use such materials as secondary sources, but the 3 peer-reviewed scholarly journal articles are a requirement.

When you are preparing a term paper, you must cite the highest quality sources. Also, remember that bibliographies are always alphabetical.

4. Make sure you include the page range the article appeared in the journal as required by both MLA or APA formatting.

I know it is a minor technicality, but it is important in the higher education environment to properly identify your sources. A journal article should be cited as follows (in MLA format):

Guideline: Author(s). “Title of Article.” Title of Journal (italicized) volume and issue number. Date of publication (in parenthesis): page numbers. Name of Database (italicized). Medium of publication (web). Date of access (day, month, year).

Example: Roberts, Kari. “Détente 2.0? The Meaning Of Russia’s ‘Reset’ With The United States.” International Studies Perspectives 15.1 (2014): 1-18. Academic Search Complete. Web. 4 May 2015.

5. The paper is to be formatted with size 12 font (Arial or Times New Roman text), with 1 inch margins and double spaced. The paper must be in essay format, meaning no bullet points or numbered points. Also, be sure to have a cover page and a works cited page. All of the general formatting requirements are listed in Addendum II of the syllabus.

6. All sources must be cited both in the body of the essay and on the works cited page.

7. The minimum writing requirement is 1000 of your own words or about 3 pages (not including cited information), with research included the assignment should be around 5-6 pages. Do not use long quotes, one or two sentences from each source to support your key points will be sufficient.

It is strongly advised that you begin early, and perhaps show the final draft to one of the GOVT tutors. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Effects of cultural revolutions on societies

Effects of cultural revolutions on societies
Effects of cultural revolutions on societies

Examine the effects of cultural revolutions on societies

Cultural revolutions can impact a single country or the global economy.

In your own life, a cultural revolution may be a change in religious practice and belief, or an event that restructures the family unit. There are many ways that culture and revolution can be defined, and this will be explored through two interviews.

Be prepared for the interview. Check out the document on Interview Protocol in Doc Sharing in order to know what to expect and how to conduct an interview.

You will select two people and interview them about the cultural revolutions that have had the most impact upon their lives.

You should create at least 4–5 questions to ask, and be prepared to ask follow-up questions if you want more information.

The objective is to see the impact of cultural revolutions upon societies, but an effective way to learn about the view of a member in the society is to ask an individual.

You will be required to prepare a transcript of the interviews, but this is not included in the word count for the assignment.

The replies to the questions below, Part I, II, and III should be between 500–700 words. Balance the content in your answers between Part II and Part III—these sections should be about equal in length and content. For submission, you should save Part I and Part II into a single document.

Part I. One at a time, you will want to introduce the person you are interviewing and explain why you chose them for the interview.

Part II. Next, talk about cultural revolution and its impact on each of the subjects. Highlight one or two interesting ways they viewed the cultural revolution as having an impact upon their life.

How did each define a cultural revolution? As an interviewer, did you offer the definition, or examples of cultural revolutions? How did your subjects come to select a major revolutionary change in their life?

How has this revolution improved their situation or made life more challenging? How have they changed? How has their family changed? After you investigate these questions in reflection on the first interview subject, answer these questions again in relation to the second interview subject.

Part III. Finally, draw conclusions about the process and the answers that were given. Compare and contrast the results of the interviews. Discuss what was similar or different in the replies.

What did you learn about how these interview subjects saw their role in society? What is their attitude about the opportunities and challenges of this cultural revolution?

Was it a challenge for you to interview these subjects? Was it a challenge for them to answer the question? Report on the experience of the interview as a part of your conclusions..

When examining the historical context of treatment in a correctional setting, it must be seen through both domestic and international viewpoints.
