The Production of Food and Identity Essay The aim of the essay is to analyze your chosen commodity in terms of its place in the production of identities of various sorts
– class, gender, ethnic, national etc. In the second part of the course, we will be looking at the theory of Pierre
Bourdieu, because it is useful for thinking about the relationship between food, identity, and the social order, and this is the theoretical framework you will use in your essay. We will have much more discussion about this essay later in the course,
and there are a worksheet and more instructions on the Stream site.
