Part I: Identifying a Current Event/Social Problem
Find a newspaper article written in the past two years about a current event, social problem, or social work/social welfare program. Most major newspapers in the country can be accessed online. This current event must be a factual news article, not an op-ed piece or an editorial. Please submit a copy of your article along with your group paper.
Part II: Writing the Main Body of the Paper
You are required to write a 3-page minimum to 4-page maximum paper. Please remember that this is an academic paper so be certain to adhere to the Written Assignment Guidelines Policy located in the Course Policy section of this syllabus. (APA Writing Style).

From a professional standpoint (not an essay), succinctly, critically, and deeply answer the following questions:
1. Describe the main points of the article. Who wrote it and from what perspective? What is the social problem, policy, or program that this article describes?
2. What is the relevance of this article to course lectures, guest speakers, required readings and/or discussion sections?
3. What are some implications for social work practice, policy, or social programs?
4. What is the social justice issue(s) identified in your selected reading and how does it relate to themes explored in
the course?
5. What kind of intervention(s) at the micro, mezzo and macro level has been proposed to address this injustice?

Part 3: Conclusion of the Paper
This part of the papers should be 2-3 pages. Each person can give their own opinion or if the group feelings are the same, a group opinion can be given. After giving your opinion (s) or group opinion, write a group conclusion to the paper.
1. Discuss your thoughts, feelings, and personal reactions to the article. What did you learn? Be specific and provide examples, if necessary.
2. Are there ways in which you feel you may have contributed to and/or experienced the injustice at any level? 3. Write your conclusion.

Human Geography Comparative Report

Human Geography – Guidelines for Comparative Report
Please research and write a 4 to 5-page analytical report on a topic related to human geography. Select as your topic a specific human phenomenon having spatial variation and compare its presence between two equivalent geographic units (city, state, country, etc.). The report is worth 100 points.
The report will have two parts to it. The first part will be a description of how the phenomenon is different and/or similar in the two places (maximum 40 points). The second part will be an analysis, in which you offer three or more plausible explanations for why this difference and/or similarity exist (maximum 50 points). In this class we have learned to ask where and why about many things. Your analysis should reflect your learning in the course: It is very unlikely that there will be a single right answer. Your answer will be graded on the quality of your analysis. Furthermore, proper referencing (5 points) and organization of materials (5 points) are required.

Please follow these guidelines:
Font: 12-point font-
Spacing: Double-space
Length: Five pages
References: At the end of the report have an additional page listing at least five sources you consulted to research this topic. For the sake of your own experience, I would prefer you use at least two non-Internet sources. Materials from Wikipedia will not be accepted.

To help you better understand the nature of the assignment, here are some sample topics:
– Compare a county (or state, country) with the lowest divorce rate (or graduation rate, birth rate, etc.) with the one having the highest. (example: Within a particular state, county A has the highest divorce rate and county B has the lowest. Is this due to spatial variation in incomes, age at marriage, religious traits, etc.?)
– Compare the amount of public transportation available (or recycling, etc.) in one city with that in a similarly sized city in the same country or in another country.
– Compare the percentage of gross national product (GNP) a country spends on a particular need (defense, education, etc.) vs. the percentage spent by another country.
– Compare immigration to a country and that of another country.
– Compare infant mortality rates and the reasons behind it in a developed versus a developing country.
– Compare a variety of crop (or breed) farmers prefer in one area with the variety they prefer in another (example: one wheat hybrid may be preferred in one place, but a different wheat hybrid is preferred in another–is this due to spatial variation in climate, soil, cost, personal preference, availability of the hybrid, market for the hybrid, etc.?)
– Compare poverty levels in a developed country and that of a developing country.
– Compare urbanization in a developed country and that of a developing country.
– Compare gender inequality in a developed country and that of a developing country.
– Compare agricultural activities in a state in the U.S. compare to another state in the U.S.
-Compare maternal mortality in a developed country and that of a developing country.
-Compare environmental condition in a specific developed country and that of a specific developing country.
-Compare ethnic conflict in a particular country and that of another country.

Note: be careful not to plagiarize and try to put things in your own words as much as you can. If you quote or borrow heavily, reference your source.
If not an exact quote, but borrowing heavily (i.e. either paraphrasing someone or using that person’s idea), don’t use quotes, but at least give credit to that person

Format for reference page:
1. You may title your reference page either “References” or “Sources.”

Five Factor Traits Model Assignment

Five Factor Traits Model

Proofread and any error, and format in APA style

Five Factor Traits Model
The Five Factor Model (FFM) gives a simple description of people differences in personality traits. Personality traits reveal individuals’ characteristic patterns of feelings, thoughts, and behaviors. The five dimensions include extraversion, competence, openness, neuroticism, and agreeableness, which signify extensive areas of personality. Studies have revealed that these arrays of characteristics tend to happen together among many individuals. For instance, people who are sociable appear to be talkative. Nonetheless, the traits do not necessarily transpire together. In this regard, this concept concerning personality patterns seem to make sense when I compare behavior patterns of my former classmates, Ryan and John. Ryan was a high scorer while John was a low-scorer. I equate them based on all the five factors to get a clear picture of the differing behaviors among the two. Firstly, regarding the neuroticism factor, Ryan experienced different forms of emotional despair, troublesome urges, and unrealistic ideas. In fact, he was anxious, gloomy, self-conscious, fragile, and impulsive. On his part, John was emotionally stable and not prone to misery since he could not get saddened quickly. He was calm, contented, controlled, even-tempered, and resilient.
Extraversion factor also seemed to give them entirely different personality. Ryan preferred frequent and intense interpersonal interactions. He was optimistic, energized, sociable, active, and cheerful. On the other hand, John preferred to have few close friends. Notably, he was unassertive, unadventurous, slow-paced, and lonely. Importantly, Ryan was open to new experiences and had a flexible style of thoughts while John remained conservative and preferred uniqueness. As to agreeableness factor, Ryan acted unselfishly and regarded others with sympathy while John seemed to be hostile and antagonistic. Indeed, he was stubborn, manipulative, selfish, and arrogant. Finally, regarding competence factor, Ryan controlled his behavior in pursuit of his goals. He was organized, efficient, ambitious, careful, and self-disciplined. On the other hand, John was disorganized, unreliable, and always had a hard time to keep a schedule. The personality traits of the two demonstrate that behavior encompasses an interaction between individual situational variables and underlying personality. The circumstance, which a person finds herself or himself, also plays a central role in determining how he or she reacts. Conclusively, it is significant to understand that every factor in the model designates a range of plausible personality types, which could be boundless.
