Case Analysis Write-up for The Passion of the Christ

Case Analysis Write-up for The Passion of the Christ (A)

A CAW should be an effective, maximum two single-spaced page write-up. It should contain three key sections, and headings are required. The sections are as follows:

Issue Identification: Identify one to three key issues in the situation. Every situation has a number of issues and your task is to identify the major issues that you will focus your analysis on. In this section, you should consider what it is that the protagonist wants to accomplish. (Look for statements like: He was wondering if he could do.. Such statements can very often be found in the opening and closing paragraphs of the case.)

Problem Analysis: In this section, you should address why things are happening, rather than merely describing what is occurring. That is, what are the causes or factors that produced the situation? What theories or practices can help explain the underlying difficulty or opportunity? Do not repeat history or rehash the case. Make good use of the relevant data in the case; be creative. You should write this section with the goal of linking the problem to the solutions that you propose in the next section. You are essentially building a logical case for the idea that your recommendations are reasonable.

Recommendations: Make your recommendations. Your recommendations should be based on thoughtful analysis rather than on feelings. Be sure that your recommendations follow logically from your analysis and treat problems not symptoms. Questions that should be answered include: What course of action do you recommend in this situation? What are the expected outcomes? What are the inherent risks and challenges? What aspect(s) of the problem will remain unsolved? Under what conditions would you expect your recommendations to be successful, and what conditions could cause them to fail? Be as specific as you can, and justify that your proposed course of action represents a successful strategy.

Point allocation: 100 points possible for each case (Note: 2 cases @ 100 points each + 100 point contribution = 300 total case points for the semester)

-Case Analysis Write-up: 100 points

o Issue Identification – 20 points

Deviance and Crime/ Class Stratification

  1. Answer two critical thinking questions from below. Each question must be from a different module. Each response should be two pages, so four pages total. If it is a little longer, that is fine. Be sure to apply terms/concept(s) from the readings, and/or the slide presentations. Use at least two direct quotes with citations (ASA style) per response to support your points. You may also relate the topics to your personal lives, current events, and/or slide presentations. Write one response, then the next, then include your reference page. It is all one paper, but the discussions are separate. No late work is accepted. You must upload the entire paper as ONE attachment file under ASSIGNMENTS in the online classroom. The attachment must be Microsoft Word, Microsoft Works, PDF, or Word Pad (RTF) format. I cannot open Mac files (Pages), so you will have to convert it. Turnitin will check for plagiarism, so DO NOT COPY FROM THE INTERNET OR OTHER SOURCES!
  2. Papers must be typed. Use a standard 12 size font in either: Tahoma, Times New Roman, Courier New, Calibri, or Arial. The paper must be double spaced with one-inch margins.
  3. Put your heading (name and such) in the header of the paper ñ you do not need a cover page. Put page numbers at the footer of the paper. Before each response, write the Module section and number of the prompt you are answering.
  4. Be sure to reference the author you directly quoted, even if it is from the textbook or slides. You should have a page at the very end called References. You only need one reference page. Wikipedia and Dictionary.com are not academic sources – you do not need to use them. The only sources you need for this assignment are your class notes, slides, and/or textbook. Follow the American Sociological Association format for in-text citations and the reference page. You can do an Internet search for ASA style guide. You only need to use ASA style for quotes, citations, and the reference page.
  5. When writing formally, avoid using contractions (can’t, don’t, won’t). Use the full versions (can not, do not, will not). Do not use slang such as cool. Spell out smaller numbers (twenty instead of 20). Do not end sentences in prepositions (with, for, by, along, in, out).
  6. Make sure you break your work up into paragraphs. Do not submit one long paragraph for each response.
