Assignment 4 – Eagle’s Nest Hotels Case Study  –  Detailed Implementation Plan Brief

  1. This is an Individual Assignment.
  2. It is worth 40% of the total module mark.
  3. The overall word count must not exceed 1,250 words – incl tables and any appendices

DUE – 19th December 2018

Your Brief

For the allocated department, you are required to prepare the Implementation Plan of the Investment Idea which your syndicate recommended in your Detailed Investment Case.  Any comments or suggestions made by the Directors at the presentation of your Investment Case may be ignored.  It is your syndicate group’s written Investment Case submission which should be used as your starting point for this piece of assessed work.  The audience for the Plan is wide – anyone who needs to use it.

Allocation of Business Departments

In most Implementation Plans there are several sections which relate to the different departments in a corporate business.  You have been assigned just one of them (see the spreadsheet which will be made available after the Investment Case submission).  The departments used for this Case Study are:

(1) Sales & Marketing, (2) Operations, (3) Finance, including Joint Ventures, Mergers and Acquisitions, (4) HR.  The allocation of departments to group members has been done in your seminars.  Your group colleagues have been assigned other sections.  With permission of the Module Leader, you will be allowed to swap your section with a fellow syndicate member in your own syndicate group.  You should work on your section independently and are not allowed to contribute to writing the sections being prepared by your fellow syndicate members.  However there are key dependencies and links between each of the business departments so you may wish to discuss these links as a team so that your implementation plan reflects the full business requirements.

Whilst discussion of the overall investment plan and in particular the inter-dependencies between business departments is anticipated, it is emphasised that this is an INDIVIUAL assignment and you must write your whole submission by yourself.  You are obviously allowed to (and it is suggested that you do) liaise with your syndicate group team members to identify your department’s dependencies with other business departments’ plans.  But any instances of copying or plagiarism will be investigated and severely penalised.  (The University reserves the right to use plagiarism software on student submissions).

Format of your Detailed Implementation Plan:

Your Detailed Implementation Plan must include the content shown on the following page.  Through background reading you will need to assess the precise requirements for your plan because the plan content will differ according to the business department for which it is written.

There is no single correct structure or format for this assignment.  You will be judged on:

  • The level of business and commercial awareness which you demonstrate
  • The originality of thinking that has gone into your plan – background reading and research is required to score well here
  • The readability (clear and concise English) and appearance/attractiveness of your plan
  • How convincing your plan is to a business reader – included here is the professionalism demonstrated
  • The structure – does it hang together nicely or is it a mixed up document and hard to follow?
  • Identification and incorporation of the key links with the other business departments
  • Completeness and accuracy – it should examine the likely requirements of your allocated business department to deliver the part of the investment idea for which you are responsible.

Expected Content

The plan should cover all of the following.  The precise content, length and detail of each area depend on the department that you are working for.  To complete the Implementation Plan you will need to study the 11 PowerPoint lectures and all weekly Reading materials in advance.

  1. Overview of the Investment Idea being implemented
  2. Impact on your department  – details of how the overall Investment Idea affects your allocated business department
  3. Time plan showing key activities and events for your section of the plan
  4. Links and dependencies between your section of the plan and other departmental plans for your syndicate
  5. Milestones – key activities for your department which must be hit at specific times
  6. Risk plan covering the major risks relating to your department’s section of the plan. You will need to read the lecture and weekly reading for Week 11 in order to do this section.
  7. Resource requirements – staffing can be included here or as a separate section:
  • From within Eagle’s Nest Hotels – ie within your own department’s responsibility and those to be provided to your department by other departments
  • From outside suppliers

The precise resources depend on the business area for which you are writing the plan.  The following is not inclusive but indicates examples of some of the areas for specific departments:

  • Sales & Marketing requires:

◦ Advertising media space

◦ Sales and other staff

◦ Web and telephony services

  • HR requires:

◦ Employees for each department of different seniorities, job roles and different locations

◦ Training resources (materials, trainers, training facilities)

◦ Legal assistance for contracts and for any downsizing and severance needs

  • Operations requires:

◦ Real estate

◦ Construction and refurbishing contractors

◦ Operational procedures

  • Finance, JV and M&A requires:

◦ Funding for each departments’ expenditure

◦ Legal assistance

◦ Information on possible JV and M&A targets

  • All departments require:

◦ Staff – of different skills and seniorities in different locations

◦ Funding

◦ Systems – IT and web based

◦ Premises

8. Financial plan – detailing the level and timing for funding.  Note – if you are working on the Finance department then you will need to cover the whole business in this item and it will be a major part of your submission.  You will also have to focus on any income generated.

9. Reference list – using the Harvard referencing system.

Written Presentation Tip

It is suggested that you use a structure with headings and sub-headings and use a numbering system.  Graphs (including Gantt charts), flow charts, bar charts to show time plans and summaries of key resources are all likely to add to the quality of your submission, as will appropriate tables.

Note: you must include a reference list at the end showing any sources you have consulted to produce your plan.  Use of the Harvard referencing system is compulsory.

Dave William is an All-Star forward for the New York Knicks basketball team

William is widely considered to be the best player in pro basketball and was the 2018 NBA Most Valuable Player.

William averaged 42.3 points per game and 22 rebounds during his MVP season.

William is very big: 6’10” and weighs 235 lbs.

William crashed his 2018 Maserati on the Garden State Parkway in Union, NJ at 11:30 pm last night.

William’s Maserati swerved into the right northbound lane and struck a concrete barrier and then crashed into an emerald green 2004 Ford Econoline XLT van driven by Maryanne Foster.

The Maserati is blue, has chrome wheels, and red racing stripes. It cost $250,000.

The car William was driving has a top speed of 192 mph, according to Maserati.

William is 31 years old.

Maryanne Foster is 44 years old

Foster lives in Linden, NJ

Foster has three children: Brian, 2, John, 5, and Tom, 9.

After colliding with Foster’s van, the Maserati flipped and came to rest on the grass median at northbound mile marker 141.

Foster was treated at the scene for minor cuts and bruises.

There were no passengers in Foster’s van.

A passenger in William’s car, Clarissa Aron, was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene

Aron was 29 years old

William was airlifted from the scene to University Hospital in Newark

Aron was not wearing a seatbelt.

William was wearing a seat belt.

William and Aron met when William was a star player at Seton Hall University. They were often seen together.

William’s car was completely destroyed.

Foster’s van was also destroyed. She works as a self-employed courier and needs the van to make a living.

William was unconscious, so blood tests were necessary to do a sobriety check. The results will not be known for two weeks.

William suffered a head injury, a broken arm, and a broken leg. He is in a medically induced coma

William is listed in critical condition.

NJ State Trooper John Addams was behind William’s car, about to stop it for speeding, when the accident occurred.

William was charged with reckless manslaughter, a felony that carries a sentence of up to 10 years in state prison.

LAW ENFORCEMENT

Captain Jim Davison, NJ State Police spokesman

“Our investigation showed that the Maserati was traveling at a very high rate of speed.”

“A trooper had clocked the Maserati traveling at 133 miles per hour moments before the crash.”

“It appears Mr. William simply lost control of the vehicle and swerved, striking the van and then flipping his vehicle.”

“We’re not sure yet if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash, but I’d be willing to bet my paycheck that alcohol did play a role. These athletes are always out partying with their girlfriends. But don’t quote me on that. That’s off the record.”

Ian Hubert, Assistant Union County Prosecutor

“Mr. William is charged with reckless manslaughter because his dangerous driving directly caused Ms. Aron’s death. If his toxicology tests come back positive for alcohol or drugs, he will face more serious charges.”

“We take reckless driving very seriously in Union County.”

“He’ll get no special treatment here just because he’s a celebrity.”

MEDICAL

Dr. Helen Donaldson, University Hospital

“At this point, we’re not concerned about Mr. William ever playing basketball again, we’re concerned with keeping him alive.”

“Mr. William is a good player, from what I understand, but I don’t follow basketball.”

“I’m glad he has a lot of money and good insurance. That will help.”

WITNESSES

Blake Allen, witness, was driving on Parkway

“These athletes, they get these cars and they drive them like jerks. Maybe he got what he deserved.”

“The car went up in the air and I saw the girl go flying out the window like a rag doll. She landed right on the pavement and I could tell she was dead immediately.”

“I’m really sick of seeing these guys in their million-dollar cars behaving like this. It happens all the time. Who’s the next victim? It could be me or you.”

Jim McGeehan, the witness, was driving on Parkway

“That Maserati blew past me so fast, my car shook. It scared me half to death. Then, a second later I saw it crash and cartwheel off the road. It was horrifying.”

“The cops really need to do something about these guys drag racing.”

Incentive program Case Study Assignment

Incentive program
              Incentive program

Incentive program

The Scenario:
A couple of months have passed since I adopted your initial recommendations from the analytical report; I have had positive responses thus far to the changes I’ve made, and I’m hoping for my retention issue to slowly improve. While the first report identified a couple of different problem areas that needed prompt correction, the one place where I didn’t have immediate concerns at that time was for the Cost criteria, based on the survey results. However, you now see an opportunity for my business: what if we could make improvements in that area also? Surely, this would also help retention!

You have put together a small team of other managers from within the company, and you’ve come up with a plan that could be implemented to make Cost and memberships even better. You’ve decided to write a formal proposal, knowing that I have stakeholders I would potentially share this plan with. I am not expecting this proposal, as I haven’t asked you for it, so you’ll have to persuade me that there is a need for your idea and that it would help retention; likely, your idea will also have an impact on the other survey criteria that were a problem, and you should point this out to me in the proposal.

Your proposal could suggest one of the following ideas:
a. Substantial additions/changes to the Elite membership level to increase enrollment – this would require outlining everything that level would contain and have access to
b. Several additions/changes to both membership levels to increase enrollment
c. An incentive program for both membership levels marketed at increasing the enrollment in my fitness classes and programs
d. The creation of a new membership level and what it would contain and have access to

The Proposal Details:
– This proposal is written to me as the primary audience.
– We are NOT using memo format: you will be given a formatting template to work from.
– On the above-mentioned template, you will find the major sections of the report. Please use sub-headings where you feel you need them to help organize information within each section.
– The length from the Introduction to the Summary (the actual report itself) will be approximately 6 pages. You might exceed this.
– The proposal will contain Front Matter, formal elements that come before the Introduction, and Back Matter, formal elements that come after the Summary.
– Additional research is required relating to the idea you choose to propose. You will need a minimum of 2 secondary sources. All research requires accurate in-text citations, and a references list will be included (one part of the Back Matter).
– The only visuals required will be Tables to organize the information in the Work Plan and Associated Costs sections. Any other visuals are at your discretion. You will still follow the 5 Rules of Integration to place them into the report.
– Page numbers are a necessity. We will discuss how to do this, as there are two different numbering systems being used between the formal elements and the actual report.
– The report will be bound with spiral binding and a plastic cover; the library or any office supply store can do this for a very small fee.
– One person from your group will submit the Proposal through SafeAssign, as before. Please go to the Formal Proposal folder in Assignments for the link.

Focusing on Out Group Bias Case Scenario

Focusing on Out Group Bias Case Scenario
Focusing on Out Group Bias Case Scenario

Focusing on Out Group Bias Case Scenario Focusing on “out-group bias” Use the case study below: summarize, analyze, and evaluate key concepts and theories associated with 1) diversity and cross-cultural issues; and 2) ethical issues that affect competing entities, with particular attention focused on issues affecting underrepresented and disenfranchised individuals and groups. You will draw upon scholarly sources and focus on diversity and cross-cultural issues. You must contribute meaningfully through analysis, synthesis, and the effective use of cited information as evidence.

Note:
focus on the skills listed in the first paragraph above. Avoid the temptation to propose solutions.

Case study:
Headquartered in the United States, G2Q is a multinational company specializing in the commodification of water. In response to company shareholders’ demands for higher revenue, the company has adopted increasingly aggressive practices in its quest to acquire controlling rights to regional water resources around the globe. As part of that initiative, the company secretly proposed a profit-sharing agreement with some local leaders in a South Pacific location in exchange for the right to divert more surface and spring water to expand their bottled water production. This has resulted in local protests and work slowdowns at the local plant, which in turn decreased productivity and financial losses.

In an attempt to return to profitability, G2Q brought in managers from company headquarters to displace indigenous people previously hired in supervisory and leadership roles. None of the incoming managers speak the local language, and most complain about what they consider to be substandard living and working conditions.

Most of the employees are members of ethnic minorities from the host country with distinct differences in cultural norms and language preferences. For example, some behave as though they speak no English, while others refuse to make eye contact with managers. Still others appear to agree with everything managers say, then ignore their directions.

One former manager who quit, married a local, and lives in a nearby village has advised the incoming managers that “things are done differently over here” and cautions them against rushing to judgment. That presents a dilemma, as the company CEO has promised all managers a sizeable bonus if the plant regains its formerly profitable status within two years. Otherwise, the company will close down that location, firing the managers and leaving hundreds of people with little hope of finding other employment.

Write a 500 words about out-group bias. It should be a succinct yet well-supported analysis of the assigned topic, using the case study as context and synthesizing information and ideas from at least three properly cited scholarly sources. Organize your work properly in multiple paragraphs (just as you would a brief essay) and use correct APA citation format.
