The article above was published in 2017 but had no previous versions. The information provided is current to my study, especially considering that the article summarizes the steps in Campbell’s hero’s journey from the mythology book “A Hero with a Thousand Faces.” The information in this source is of the essence to my paper since it enables the building of my argument, which is, Beowulf is an example of the heroic cycle and the hero’s journey. Although I considered other sources, I found this to be elementary to my paper since the content of the article relates directly to my argument. The source is also suitable for a research paper since it helps build on the literature of myths and mythological theories. Further, the article essentially details the traditional three-act structure common to modern films while contrasting it against Campbell’s Monomyth theory.
The article’s author is Dan Bronzite, an accredited screenwriter. Dan has commissioned numerous feature scripts and written many specs. Also, two of the short films Dan has directed are award-winning with Dan having made significant contributions to the Script Magazine. Additionally, Dan’s experience with script writing and study of myths makes him a suitable critique of “Star Wars” in the context of mythology. The reliability of Dan’s article is the reference of scenes from the reviewed movie and Campbell’s book. The verification of these references is through watching the movie. Therefore, Dan effectively presents his objective perspective that heroes in films follow the same mythic structure that Campbell developed.

The original publication of the book was in 1949 while the revised version in 1968. However, there was a third version published in 1968. The information embedded in the book is current to my topic since it provides the blueprint of the original story I intend to explore in my paper. The book offers a description of the power and ability of the myth in transcending spiritual perspective, gender, culture, place and time. In this regard, the author employs the journey of the adventurous hero in developing various themes. In this regard, the source proves to be of the essence in developing my topic, which is, discussing Beowulf as an example of the heroic cycle and the hero’s journey. The source was my first consideration in building my paper since its information is at an appropriate level; that is, it serves as the primary source document for my work. I would use this source for a research paper since the author explores the theoretical context of mythological narratives in terms of structure.
Joseph Campbell is the author of the book. Campbell is renowned as a notable American mythologist and philosopher whose work has appealed to many contemporary artists, writers, and scholars. The employed mythological and philosophical qualifications and experiences of Campbell are crucial in the development of the content of the book. Alongside this, Campbell draws ideas from renowned theorists in developing his heroic model including the works of Freud Jung, James Joyce, and Heinrich Zimmer. In his book, Campbell persuades the readers that mythological narratives have a similar structure.
Gordon, Andrew. “Star wars: a myth for our time.” Screening the Sacred. Routledge, 2018. 73-82.
The publication of this source was in 2018. However, the information contained in this version of the book is slightly updated. The reprinted version proves to be of paramount significance in terms of providing current information for my paper. I find the information in this source relevant to my topic since it examines Campbell’s thesis that epic mythical heroes are dream-figure that liberate or offer salvation to the entire culture through a series of events (hero’s journey). The source exhibits a deep resonance and reinforcement for its audience through the archetypal situations and characters as well as multiple cross-references that provide emotional conventions. The book presents “Star Wars” in a traditional mythical patter in light of Campbell’s argument. Therefore, I may consider the source for a research paper since it provides a modern context of traditional mythical patterns.
The source is authored by Andrew Gordon who is both an American professor and writer. Gordon is renowned for his insightful talks on topics related to film, literature and science fiction. Therefore, the source embeds theories of mythology as derived from Campbell, which are relatable. Further, Gordon’s commentary on Star Wars in the context of mythology is attributable to his prolonged study of myth and determination to examine how films meet mythic criteria. The reliability of Gordon’s content is the fact that the author cross-references Campbell’s book and the Star Wars with high accuracy. Also, the source is free from typographical errors in its attempt to present Star Wars in a mythical adventurous pattern. Gordon uses this source to inform that the heroes in films meet mythological patterns.

Groups Field ethnographic research

Throughout the course, we have been talking a lot about ethnographic research. As we all know, this is the type of research Duneier used to write Sidewalk. Now, you will be given a change to get out of your chair, and take a stab at this type of research yourself!

Step 1: Move to a place where you can easily observe a groups of people interacting. You can choose a scenario where you are also part of the group (like Duneier) but you should be transparent about this in your reporting/field notes.

Step 2: Get out a notebook, and take field notes on what people are saying/doing for a minimum of 20 minutes. Yes, you really have to do this part! Taking field notes can be exhausting, especially if you are transcribing! I really want you to have the experience of a sociologist in the field.

Step 3: Take your notes back home, and consider the following:

What type of group was observed (dyad, tryad, etc)?

Was the level of group cohesion high? low? How could you tell?

Was there a group leader present? How did you know? If so, what type of authority did they demonstrate?

How were decisions made within the group? Who seemed to have the power?

What other facets of group dynamics were present?

Step 4: Write a description of your findings, highlighting the prompts above. Your submission should be a minimum of 300 words, and clearly demonstrate an understanding of this week’s reading. You must cite your sources (the textbook) and attach your field notes for full credit.

Emile Durkheim wrote frequently about the concept on anomie – or the sense of “normlessness” that can occur when we become disconnected from social bonds and experience and/or an increased pace of change. Judicial rhetoric

This essay will be the second major writing assignment of the semester. You will compose a piece of forensic (a.k.a. “judicial”) rhetoric, arguing from evidence that an existing law is either just or unjust.

You must do research, identifying the strongest arguments for or against your chosen law, then offer counterarguments that either persuade you that the law is just or unjust. You should consider this assignment a piece of forensic writing where you can research and uncover the past, the facts, or a truth from actions that have already happened or ideas and laws that have been implemented. **Important – when engaging in forensic rhetoric, be sure to determine your burden of proof. Do not use the strategy of stating facts but instead use your resources to prove your law is just or unjust.

Please remember, although you may want to take on the Supreme Court, it is advised that you pick up an argument closer to home. For example, writing a short paper about the law of the death penalty or abortion would not work for this assignment it is too large of an encumbrance for you to pursue. Also, trying to prove that you want to change the drinking age or legalize marijuana in Texas would again but too broad of a topic to handle. Instead, I would advise that you look up local Texas laws. For example, SB (Senate Bill) 1381 requires Texas businesses to ask for proof of ID with all Credit Card or Debit Card purchases. HB (House Bill) 478 states that a person who, by force or otherwise, enters a motor vehicle for the purpose of removing a vulnerable individual (i.e., child) from the vehicle is immune from civil liability for damages resulting from that entry or removal. HB 590, which took effect on September 1st, 2017, shields first responders who provide roadside assistance in good faith from liability related to their care, so long as they are not negligent, reckless, or commit intentional misconduct. HB 1645, which went into effect immediately, states that if a school district allows high school students to earn a letter for academic, athletic, or extracurricular achievements, the district must allow high school students in the district to earn a letter on the basis of a student’s participation in a Special Olympics event.

For this second essay, I would like you to adopt the academic style that you are probably already familiar with (MLA format). You should not, then, present yourself as a partisan—that is, one who has chosen his/her side of an issue before the fact. Instead, you need to present yourself as a dispassionate observer, critical and careful in your thinking about this issue. In other words, the style is going to be more inclined toward logos and much less toward pathos. Ethos must, as always, also be established, but this is best done subtly and implicitly. There is no place for the pronoun usage of “I” within this essay.

You will need to conduct research for this project and have at least two documented sources for this essay. You will certainly find more evidence for your chosen law than you can include in this short essay; hence, you will need to “sift” through it, selecting the best proofs, the most convincing evidence, for your paper. Do not construct a “strawman” argument (one that is weak, fragile, and thus easily destroyed). Instead, find the strongest evidence out there, and take it seriously in your writing of the paper. If you use websites, try to identify those that are credible. So try very hard to find those sources that present themselves as possessing a strong, trustworthy ethos.

For this project you will read and analyze a poem written by a Latino poet. The following instructions will help you uncover the meaning of the poem.
1. What does the title mean?
Take a look at the title and reflect on what it means:

IRAC Method
Legal cases are usually examined using the following critical legal thinking method. First,
the facts of the case must be investigated and understood. Next, the legal issue that is to be
answered must be identified and succinctly stated. Then the law that is to be applied to the case
must be identified, read, and understood. Once the facts, law, and legal issue have been stated,
critical thinking must be used in applying the law to the facts of the case. This requires that the
decision maker—whether a judge, juror, or student—analyze, examine, evaluate, interpret, and
apply the law to the facts of the case. Last, the critical legal thinker must reach a conclusion and
state his or her judgment. In the study of law, this process is often referred to as the IRAC
method (IRAC is an acronym that stands for issue, rule, application, and conclusion), as
outlined in the following:
