The Hansei process occurs constantly and consistently. At Toyota, for example, even if a project is successful, there is still a hansei-kai (reflection meeting) to review what went wrong. According to Jeffrey Liker, author of The Toyota Way, if a manager or engineer claims that there were not any problems with the project, he or she will be reminded that there is always room for improvement. In other words, they have not objectively and critically evaluated the project to find opportunities for improvement, or they did not stretch to meet (or exceed) their expected capacity.

The concept on the use of Hansei is not a required component of the final project, but rather an opportunity for you to step back and reflect on the project in regards to the knowledge you have gained.

Reflect on the final project you submitted this week, using the Hansei process. Identify three things you would do differently if you were involved in a similar situation at Netflix in the future. Paper Contents/Structure:

The introductory paragraph must contain an argument (thesis). Although this seems to be an informative paper, it still must have a point. For instance, “The life of a typical Mexican woman during the colonial period in America was exceptionally challenging. Through the scrutiny of the concept of the cult of domesticity, Manifest Destiny, and the Greaser Law it becomes apparent that Mexican women faced a multitude of oppression much like her African American counterpart that still intimately defines her position in society today.”

Next, you would begin to construct your “colonial identity” in first person. You would introduce yourself, how you came to the colonies (this is what we call “historical fiction,” of course I am not expecting you to know that you came on the Mayflower and landed on Plymouth, but rather, based on your racial/ethnic identity, what would have your point of entry have been?) I understand that some groups will have a challenge finding a point of entry, for instance, in my case, very few Vietnamese would have been in colonial America. I would use as a reference point the entry of the Chinese. In my research I found that in 1834 the first Chinese woman Julia Foochee ching-chang king (Afong Moy) came to the United States. I would then use the Chinese experience to inform how a person like myself would experience life in the US. It might help to write your paper as a series of letters or journal entries.

What do you do for a living? What challenges do you face in the colonies? What advantages if any? How are you treated?

Third, I want you to then befriend another person that differs from your racial identity and explain their situation and life in the colonies. You would then research 3-5 laws, court cases, customs, and social practices that apply to your friend. They cannot be the same laws that you have used for yourself. Fourth, I want you to situate yourself in a major historical event and explain your perspective or role. For instance, if you are Native, how would you have reacted to the Indian Removal Act of 1830?
Last, I want you to reflect on your current identity and your life in the United States? How has the legacy of the experience of a person like yourself in colonial America impact your experiences today? What have you learned from your research?

Remember, I want you to be creative, but I need to see that you have done your research. You need to identify and explain laws, court cases, and social customs. Your historical event should also explain the significance and impact it had in history. Although you are making up the story, the facts are real. I need you to include at least 3 sources and a works cited or bibliography. Please use academic sources, Wikipedia, info please, and similar sites or blogs are not academic. You can use your text book, but they will not be counted towards the three sources. You need to cite within the body of your paper whenever you mention information that the average person does not commonly known. A good rule of thumb is whenever you cite a law, court cases, or custom, there should be a citation that follows. This also applies to details of your historical event. Be mindful: a paper without in-text citation will be given a zero with no opportunity to rewrite for a higher grade. When in doubt, ask.

Smiling makes you more attractive. It lifts your mood and the mood of everyone around you. It is believed to be infectious and may even make you live longer.

How Smiling Affects your Brain
Each time you smile your brain feels really happy. Smiling activates the release of feel- good-messengers that work towards fighting stress. These messengers help you experience a whole range of emotions, from happiness to sadness, anger to depression.

When a smile flashes across your face; dopamine, endorphins and serotonin are all released into your bloodstream, making not only your body relax but also work to lower your heart rate and blood pressure. Endorphins are natural painkillers – 100%
naturally produced by your own body, without the negative effects of medication.

How Smiling Affects Your Body
When you smile, people treat you differently. You’re seen as attractive, reliable, relaxed and sincere. Scientists found that seeing an attractive smiling face activates your orbitofrontal cortex, the region in your brain processing sensory rewards. This suggests
that when you view a person smiling, you actually feel that you’re being rewarded.

How Smiling Affects Other People
Smiling is infectious, because the part of your brain that is responsible for your facial expression of smiling when happy or mimicking another person’s smile is located in the cingulate cortex, an unconscious automatic response area. In a Swedish study, subjects were shown pictures of different emotions, including joy, fear, anger, and surprise. The participants were told to frown when shown a smiling person. Instead, as you might have already guessed, participants echoed the emotions of the people rather than following the researcher’s instructions.We can’t always control what happens to us, but smiling and laughing more often can
really change your internal and external experience, and brighten your perspective on life. So just keep smiling!

The project.
The professor will select a group of three or more students to go to a public place (mall, flea market, bus station, college campus, park, beach, downtown, etc.). This group will prepare themselves to select a location. Each student will take turns in smiling to
complete strangers. The other two students will be the observers of the effects of not only the strangers, but of the student themselves. The students will randomly select different people from the community and smile to them. The range of smiling can be from a fake smile, a smirk, or full blown smile with a laugh attached to it. There are a minimum of 30 observable smiles per student to men and women from our society.
You are smiling to babies, toddlers, teenagers, young adults, middle aged, and elderly.
Separate your smiles evenly among your sample strangers. There is no need for interaction from the smiling student; however, the other two students must be able to be nearby to see the reaction of the general public and observe it’s effects.
The group will share the entire load of organizing a day to do this research, taking turns in smiling, writing the observation, writing the essay, and making the graphs.
Each person of the group will assist in writing the five (5) page essay (introduction – body – conclusions) which explains your entire work of where you went for the smiling, the effects of the public, the effects of the student, and the final thoughts of all three students after completing this project. The final page of this project would be to make two (2) graphs which depict your findings. The graphs have to be quantitative which depict your results of your study.

You will write a five (5) page essay of your findings after there has been 30 smiling interactions from your team. Page one is the cover sheet with all student’s names, page two through four is your essay, and page five is your graphs.
