Objective: Students will research the history of charges of test bias and evaluation of test fairness with regard to a particular societal group (e.g., African Americans, women, the elderly). Summarize any current or historical controversies regarding standardized testing and its applications with respect this group. Evaluate the evidence offered regarding test bias and test fairness in the present day with regard to this group. The paper must consist of 5 pages. The book, Valeria Luiselli’s, Tell Me How It Ends, specifically explores the treatment of Unaccompanied Minors in the immigration court. The interviews took place with the first wave of Central American children crossing the border alone in 2014-2015.

Definitions:
Unaccompanied children or minors is the group of children interviewed by Luiselli as she acted on their behalf as an interpreter. Children are placed into different catagories depending upon the legal status of their residence in the U.S. :
1. What does “unaccompanied children” mean?
Children who arrive in the United States alone or who are required to appear in immigration court on their own often are referred to as unaccompanied children or unaccompanied minors.
“Unaccompanied alien child” (UAC) is a technical term defined by law as a child who “(A) has no lawful immigration stat¬us in the United States; (B) has not attained 18 years of age; and (C) with respect to whom—(i) there is no parent or legal guardian in the United States; or (ii) no parent or legal guardian in the United States is available to provide care and physical custody.”
2. What happens to children separated from their family because of the “Zero Tolerance Policy?
They are classified as “unaccompanied alien children” (UACs) and placed into a shelter operated by the U.S.

3. What is the category of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)?
On June 15, 2012, the Secretary of Homeland Security announced that certain people who came to the United States as children and meet several guidelines may request consideration of deferred action for a period of two years, subject to renewal.
They are also eligible for work authorization. Deferred action is a use of prosecutorial discretion to defer removal action against an individual for a certain period of time. Deferred action does not provide lawful status.

Jules Henri Poincaré
Henri Poincaré was born Jules Henri Poincaré in Nancy, France on April 29, 1854. He is considered to be one of the last of the universal scholars. He was proficient in Mathematics, Physics, Astronomy, Engineering, and Philosophy.
He died rather suddenly and unexpectedly on July 17, 1912 at the age of 58. While he made significant contributions to the many fields listed above, this paper will focus on his Mathematics, Physics, and Philosophy contributions.
For example, Poincaré actually published a paper about what would later become known as Special Relativity before Einstein published his famous paper in 1905.
In this paper I will compare and contrast Poincaré’s submission with Einstein’s submission. One point of contrast is that Poincaré retained the theory that there was a luminiferous ether that made up the vastness of the universe, while Einstein disregarded it.
Perhaps this error combined with Poincaré’s untimely death explains why Einstein’s theory was exalted over his earlier work. This will be a point of exploration in this paper.
