Formal Report Presentation
1. Present a formal report informing a professional audience about your field of study using the PAL (purpose, audience, logistic) method (Brody, Ch. 2).

Points to discuss:
What your major is
Why you chose this major (What is in it for YOU?)
How you decided on it
Was there an influential factor that helped you decide on this major, if so, what is it and why
The type of work you will be doing or hope to be doing Statistical information regarding your field of study (need/demand)
Why presentation and communication skills are relevant for a position in your field
Why getting a degree in this field is important to you

2. As primary research for the formal presentation, you must interview a professional in a field related to your major. The interview should offer background
information on the interviewee and focus on presentation and communication situations relevant for a position in that field. Refer to Goodall & Goodall
chapter 6, Interviewing and Conscious Communication, for best practices and techniques (pages 126-133).

3. You must turn in the typed list of questions you prepared for the interview and the related answers. Your speech must incorporate elements of your
interview (i.e. paraphrasing or direct quoting). If you omit this step you may lose up to 25 points. Be sure to orally cite your interviewee.

4. In addition to your interview, you must include two different credible sources related to your field of study and incorporate them in your speech. This
additional information can be statistical, descriptive, or anecdotal. You must have your oral citations in your outline. That is the only full sentence in
your outline. Cite the source and information in your speech and your outline or you will lose 10 points each.

5. You must use PowerPoint or Prezi as your visual aid.

6. Your speech will be presented extemporaneously from a well-constructed keyword outline. You must rehearse this presentation. Poor eye contact and reading your notes results in a 20-point penalty.

7. Your outline with a correct APA Reference page must be typed. You will not be allowed to present your formal presentation if you omit this step.
A. The outline needs to be correctly numbered following traditional Roman numeral formatting. Please use the Brody example on p. 26-28 for numbering and refer to the sample. You will lose points if your outline is not properly structured or organized according to this format. Your introduction, conclusion and any oral citations must be completely written out. The body of your speech should be key word phrases only.
B. Turn in your key word outline, Reference page, and a fully developed, typed interview including both the questions and the answers are due to the
instructor on the day of your presentation.
C. View your presentation and assess your performance. Take notes and evaluate on your delivery, as well as your professionalism. Was the presentation effective (content)? Explain in a typed evaluation due the next class.

Keyword Outline Example
A keyword outline is used when giving a speech or presentation. It includes the main ideas of what is to be communicated in a manner that is much shorter
than the actual word-for-word speech. The keywords form the skeleton or outline of a speech, and serve to remind the speaker of his ideas in the correct
order he wants to present them. Keyword outlines can be written on index cards or on a regular sheet of paper. An example of a keyword outline follows.

Measures of Organizational Performance

Measures of Organizational Performance

When you are assigned a task, what do you do first? Do you think about evaluating and planning what to do or do you just jump right in and get to work? Many
of us don’t have much time to plan, or at least we don’t think we do. Some find planning boring and prefer to just get started without a second thought.
Strategic planning is preparing for the future. It is deliberate, purposeful, and thoughtful. Some individuals do not realize how vital planning is to their own success or to that of their organization.
In this Discussion, you will select a health care organization and examine its performance, analyzing how strategic planning and marketing may affect that organization.

To prepare for this Discussion:
· Review this week’s Learning Resources, especially Jennifer Wilkerson’s discussion from this course’s Interactive Media.
· Analyze the Hospital Competitor Performance document that provides further information (sample indicators of performance) in reference to Waldenville profiles and choose one of the health care organizations from this document as the focus of your work in this discussion. Refer back to and read the Waldenville profiles

Post by Day 4 a description of two measures of organizational performance you would recommend for the health care organization you selected. Then, analyze how these measures advance the interests of strategic planning and marketing for this organization. Make sure to use the Interactive Media to support your analysis.
Hospital Competitor Performance – Waldenville
In addition to what is described in the Waldenville “profiles,” there are four hospitals in Waldenville. These facilities are located in different areas of
the community, and each has its array of services and distinct service area. The description of each of these hospitals and their performance in the most
recent year is as follows:
St. Francis Hospital: This not-for-profit Catholic hospital owned by the Sisters of St. Francis has 226 licensed beds and provides a range of services but
specializes in obstetrics (maternity) and women’s services, oncology (cancer) services, and cardiovascular services. It has the highest market share for obstetrics in the local service area (42%).
Doctors’ Hospital: This for-profit hospital has licensed beds and is owned by a leading national hospital company. It specializes in orthopedics,
cardiovascular services, and neurology, but offers a range of general medical and surgical services. It is the market leader in orthopedics. Fifty-five
percent of its patients are Medicare patients.
Twin Rivers Community Hospital: This small, non-profit hospital provides general acute care inpatient services. It has a small medical staff, and many
physicians also practice at Lakefront and St. Francis. The majority of patients served are covered under commercial insurance. The facility is operating in a
negative financial position.

Lakefront Regional Medical Center: This regional referral hospital has 320 beds and is the oldest non-profit facility in Waldenville. It offers a range of
inpatient and outpatient services. It specializes in cardiovascular services, oncology series, and obstetrics (maternity) and women’s services. It has
established a number of primary care clinics throughout Waldenville and the region. It is the market leader for inpatient admissions in the community.

The community is projected to increase its population by 15% to 270,000 by the year 2018. Most growth is projected to occur in the age 65+ cohort. In
addition, developers have announced the building of three housing communities that will cater to the older adult population. Therefore, an in-migration of
older adults is expected in addition to the projected population increase as indicated by the state population studies office.

COMPARING THREE CHANTS ASSIGNMENT

Comparing Three Chants

This is the assignment I will put up the links to YouTube at the end
COMPARING 3 CHANTS ASSIGNMENT
You have been emailed 3 different chants of the middle ages, composed by:
Anonymous, Hildegard von Bingen, and Leonin (Notre Dame Cathedral, Paris).
All are examples of sacred chant written between the 11th and 12th centuries.
You are to write a compare/contrast “critique” of these 3 different chants. I would recommend the following organization:
1. Similarities of all 3 chants, noting any slight uniqueness within those similarities.
2. Differences between the 3 chants.
3. Unique qualities —something(s) that captures your attention —in each of the 3 chants
4. IF you had to choose your personal favorite, which chant would you choose, and why?
Please consider using the vocabulary listed below, and embedding these vocabulary terms as you write your critique. I have even included the vocabulary
definitions to help you.
There is no required length for this assignment. It will be as long as you think it needs to be to address the questions listed above. I’m not looking for a
dissertation, but rather a clear writing style, well organized that addresses basic answers to the first 3 questions.
For question #4, you need only answer in a couple of sentences.
HELPFUL VOCABULARY:
monophonic: single line of music, no chords or harmony; “one-dimensional” sound.
• polyphonic: two or more lines of music that work together but also have their own integrity.
• organum: a plainchant melody with at least one line of music added, often following the first
melody with the exact same rise and fall but starting on a different pitch. (eg: organum at the 4th or 5th, for example)
• conjunct: notes that proceed in step-wise movement (up or down)
• disjunct: notes that proceed by leap (not step-wise) movement (up or down)
• range: the expansive degree of highness and lowness of a melody (“wide range” = very high
to very low; “narrow range” = not much movement between highs and lows.
• metered: where the music has a steady beat, in groups of 5, 4, 3, 7, 8, etc.
• non-metered: where the music seems to follow the flow & cadence of the words (like in speech), rather than have an obvious beat-counting pattern.

Social Psychology

Choose and read one of the articles.
Based on the readings do the following:
1) 1) In one paragraph, identify and discuss 3 things that you learned from the article. (What specifically did you learn and what did you learn about it?)
2) In three separate paragraphs, relate each of the things you learned from the article to one concept, theory or idea from the course. (Take the 3 ideas you
mentioned above and explain to me how they relate to concepts from this course) You should have 3 paragraphs, each relating one thing you learned from the article to one concept, theory or idea from the course.
3) In one paragraph, tell me how accurate and valid the conclusions are in comparison to what you have learned from the course. (Do you believe the results,
do they make sense, explain why or why not. BE SPECIFIC!)
All papers must be typed, double spaced and stapled with your name printed clearly on the first page. I expect that this assignment will end up being between 2-3 pages, if you have completed the assignment in one page, you probably have not done all that I have asked for.
Paragraphs should be are at least 5 sentences and if you feel like one paragraph is not enough to get your ideas across, then please write more. I will never
deduct points for writing more.
Identify means tell me.
Discuss means tell me about something in as much detail as you thing necessary to get your point across.
You should not need to cite anything for this assignment, but if you do I do not care what format it is in as long as you give proper credit to the idea. MLA
and APA are both fine citation styles.
