Formal Essay Assignment on Harlem Renaissance Like any other group of writers, Harlem Renaissance authors are concerned with love and sex. Select a text that addresses love and considers how it goes about doing so.

Formal Essay Assignment on Harlem Renaissance
Formal Essay Assignment on Harlem Renaissance

Considering that so many Harlem Renaissance writers’ sexualities were not confined by heteronormative bounds, how do writers evade the specifics of gender/sexuality to explore love in and of itself?

To what degree do writers appeal to romantic love; in what ways do they depict acts of sex?

How do the writers avoid or address race in their depictions of love? How do other social factors such as class, status, location, or age affect representations of love or sex? How do aesthetics come into play with regard to this subject matter?

Using Dipity.com, or a similar tool, you will be creating your timeline and rationale for why you have chosen these items.

Variation will occur between student events selection, leading to a rich discussion around why you’ve picked your events.

INSTRUCTIONS AND SUPPORTING MATERIAL

First, you will be reading Chapter 2, “A Brief History of Police in the United States” in our course textbook. You should then supplement your review of historical figures by reading the provided Historical Figures page, Reading 1.1.

Watch the History of Policing Videos, Part One, identified in the Module 1 overview.

Conduct additional research online using your favorite Internet search engine to locate credible resources.

In your response, be sure to cite your sources using APA. You may want to refer to the Purdue Online Writing Lab, http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/

The suggested timeline tool for this project is Dipity.com (http://www.dipity.com/), although you can use another similar tool. A tutorial can be found HERE with tips on how to develop your project.

Meaningful comments require analysis on your part. For example, share some information about how the content posted is the same or different from what you have seen or experienced or pose questions that further and deepen the discussions. You can bring in new examples or challenge the classmate to further one’s thinking or position. Statements like, I agree or that is a good point do not demonstrate thinking and analysis and are not considered meaningful comments. If your thinking is well developed and meaningful, it does not necessarily mean your post has to be long in length.

Be sure to cite your sources using APA. You may want to refer to the Purdue Online Writing Lab, http://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/

Research Seminar in Economics of the Environment Essay

This is 4th-year economics course so please make an offer if you have an economics background. You may need to use economics methods & models in your answers.

– Select two of the three topics below and answer the corresponding questions in a mini-essay format. Relate your answers to the literature you have read on the topic. For each topic write 3-4 pages.

Topics:

1- Valuation of eco-systems:

The government is concerned about the degradation of ecosystems. You have been commissioned to provide advice to the cabinet on how to proceed.

You are to write a briefing note responding to the following questions: What method(s) have economists used to value degradation of ecosystems? Are these methods reliable? How should policy makers proceed in the future?

In responding to these questions, you may take a broad view of ecosystems, including species at risk, unique scenic landscapes, and services provided by natural processes (water purification, climate regulation, etc.), or you may focus on a sub-set of these ecosystem issues.

2- Value of life saving:

The Government of Imbecilia is considering reducing the speed limit on highways and freeways in order to reduce the number of fatal car crashes. Obviously, the main benefit of this policy would be to save lives.

The costs would primarily involve longer trip times (There are no doubt other costs and benefits but they need not concern us here). The government will have to conduct cost-benefit analysis to determine whether the policy would lead to a net improvement in social welfare or a loss.

In this analysis, how should the government determine the dollar value of lives saved? What are the issues and challenges involved in arriving at such a value? Discuss.

3- Trade Liberalization and the Environment

The Government of Canada has recently signed the USMCA, a renewed trade deal with Mexico and the US, as well as the CETA (Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement) with the European Union, and the CPTPP (Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership) with 10 Asia-Pacific countries.

Should we expect increasing trade through such deals will lead to increased pollution? Discuss what you have learned from the literature.

Eleanor and Park Essay

Analysis essay
Analysis essay

Analysis essay

In a three-page, typed, and double spaced literary analysis essay, please be sure that you:

  • include an introduction paragraph, which grabs the reader’s interest and offers an arguable thesis statement as its last sentence.
  • offer several supporting paragraphs which open with a transition word, phrase, or sentence and have governing topic sentences. The supporting paragraphs will also offer concrete examples from the novel. For this essay, you will need to weave in the evidence you gather from the text in ways that are logical and productive. Use the text to support your thesis by including specific passages from the novel. In addition to borrowing textual evidence from the novel (the primary text) to support your claims, you will also be required to consult one secondary source about an issue related to your essay topic. Because Eleanor and Park is a young adult novel, unfortunately, there is not much scholarship about it. Therefore, you’ll need to consult scholarship about one of the issues within the novel (e.g. loss, abuse, post-traumatic stress, gender stereotypes, etc.). Find a scholarly text (i.e. a scholarly journal article or scholarly book) and use it to further support your claims. You can find scholarship in The Ritz Library’s research databases. Finally, be sure that you introduce the quoted passages (from the play or scholarly source) and then analyze the passage in a sentence or two to help your reader understand the significance of the quoted material.
  • provide a conclusion paragraph that restates the main point of the essay in slightly varied and interesting language and gracefully sums up the paper.
  • ï adhere to the MLA Style formatting when citing the novel (Rowell 37). Please consult Purdue University’s Online Writing Lab site (Purdue OWL owl.english.purdue.edu) for additional documentation guidance. A link to the Purdue OWL website can also be found on our Blackboard site under Content. In-text citations and the corresponding Works Cited page are mandatory.

ï Follow the tips outlined in the Suggestions for Writing Success sheet (uploaded under Content on our course Blackboard site).

Choose from one of the following writing prompts:

1) Consider the unsettling of safe spaces in Rainbow Rowell’s Eleanor and Park.
