Instructions for the completion of assessment part two:

The question is deliberately broad. Students are therefore allowed to focus their answers on the field in which their course is based. This may aid the search for literature and examples by offering appropriate boundaries to your work.

The assessment must be submitted electronically via ‘Turnitin’.

Please familiarize yourself with the regulations on late submission. Last minute accidents involving the loss of data sticks, corrupted files, faulty laptops and so on can be guarded against by backing your work up thoroughly and regularly.

Do not put your name on the assessment – use your student number for identification only.

The maximum word count for part two of this assessment is 3,000 words, +/- 10%. This word count includes any appendices (which you should not need to any extent) but excludes the words in the reference list. This word count must be adhered to.

This is an essay, not a report, so you should avoid the use of bullet points and lists. This is an essay question which is effectively asking you to complete a critical evaluation of the literature on the topics and use this literature to form arguments to address the discussion.

Please note that tutors will not be able to pre-assess draft assessments. We will comment on short sections if students are concerned about their writing style, and we are happy to advise on outline structures. Please do not ask tutors to comment on whole draft assessments.

Accurate referencing of sources is crucial in this coursework. There are resources available in the Learning Resource Centre and via the student, advice shops to help. The referencing system used in this module is the APA Referencing system. Please make sure you are familiar with this. Marks will be deducted for inaccurate referencing.

Self Management and Choice of Behavioral Change

Self Management and Choice of Behavioral Change Have you been reflecting on a behavior or behavior pattern that you would like to change? Remember that your project for this course will be the creation of a self-management program. You will be asked to complete an assignment based on your choice of behavioral change in the next unit.

Self Management and Choice of Behavioral Change
Self Management and Choice of Behavioral Change

In this assignment, you will prepare a case study of a person who would like to quit smoking (Carl), and you will make recommendations based on the concepts from this unit.

Self Management and Choice of Behavioral Change Case History

Carl is 32 years old and has been smoking cigarettes since he was 17. He typically smokes in the car and with his colleagues at work during breaks. His wife does not use nicotine and will not allow him to smoke in the house. Carl says that smoking helps him to relax, and he enjoys sharing his breaks with other smokers. Every time he has tried to quit smoking, he has relapsed within two weeks. He has tried nicotine patches and nicotine gum but has not tried e-cigarettes. Carl’s father has recently been diagnosed with smoking-related cancer and the family doctor has urged them both to quit. The doctor said that using a buddy system is often helpful, and suggested that Carl and his father try kicking the habit together. Carl wants to support his father’s health and is starting to think about his own health as well. Given his previous relapses, however, he is not sure that he will be able to quit for good. He has heard that addictive behavior can be related to classical conditioning, and wants to understand more about this process.

Write an analysis of Carl’s smoking behavior using concepts from this unit.

Be sure to include the stimuli that have become associated with the relaxation effect that Carl enjoys.

Suggest at least three ways that Carl can use classical conditioning to help him quit cigarettes and avoid relapse.

Differentiate between voluntary and involuntary behavior.

Appraise factors that may obstruct or facilitate classical conditioning in Carl’s situation.

Your paper should be written in APA style and should include two pages of text. You must cite the course textbook in your paper. Additional sources may be included as well.

Remember that your paper should include a title page, body, and reference page. Each source that you use to support your paper should be listed once on the reference page, and should also be cited at least once in the paper. An in-text citation referring to the textbook will look like this: (Powell, Honey, & Symbaluk, 2017). In subsequent citations it would be (Powell et al., 2017).

This is particularly true in information systems, which provides critical support for organizational missions. The heart of risk management is a formal risk management plan. The project activities described in this document allow you to fulfill the role of an employee participating in the risk management process in a specific business situation.

The project is structured as follows:

Value of Risk Management Process for Organizations Scenario

You are information technology (IT) intern working for Health Network, Inc. (Health Network), a fictitious health services organization headquartered in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Health Network has over 600 employees throughout the organization and generates $500 million USD in annual revenue. The company has two additional locations in Portland, Oregon, and Arlington, Virginia, which support a mix of corporate operations. Each corporate facility is located near a co-location data center, where production systems are located and managed by third-party data center hosting vendors.

Value of Risk Management Process for Organizations Company Products

Health Network has three main products: HNetExchange, HNetPay, and HNetConnect.

net exchange is the primary source of revenue for the company. The service handles secure electronic medical messages that originate from its customers, such as large hospitals, which are then routed to receiving customers such as clinics.

HNetPay is a Web portal used by many of the company’s HNetExchange customers to support the management of secure payments and billing. The HNetPay Web portal, hosted at Health Network production sites, accepts various forms of payments and interacts with credit-card processing organizations much like a Web commerce shopping cart.

HNetConnect is an online directory that lists doctors, clinics, and other medical facilities to allow Health Network customers to find the right type of care at the right locations. It contains doctors’ personal information, work addresses, medical certifications, and types of services that the doctors and clinics offer. Doctors are given credentials and are able to update the information in their profile. Health Network customers, which are the hospitals and clinics, connect to all three of the company’s products using HTTPS connections. Doctors and potential patients are able to make payments and update their profiles using Internet-accessible HTTPS Web sites.

NOTE: Any discussion of products not a part of this scenario, such as health insurance products, will result in an automatic 50% reduction in points. Your paper is not a research paper on risk management – it is a risk management plan to a very specific situation and must relate to the scenario, above.

Information Technology Infrastructure Overview

Health Network operates in three production data centers that provide high availability across the company’s products. The data centers host about 1,000 production servers, and Health Network maintains 650 corporate laptops and company-issued mobile devices for its employees.

Value of Risk Management Process for Organizations and Threats Identified

Upon review of the current risk management plan, the following threats were identified:

Loss of company data due to hardware being removed from production systems

Loss of company information on lost or stolen company-owned assets, such as mobile devices and laptops

Loss of customers due to production outages caused by various events, such as natural disasters, change management, unstable software, and so on

Internet threats due to company products being accessible on the Internet

Insider threats

Changes in regulatory landscape that may impact operations

Management Request

Senior management at Health Network has determined that the existing risk management plan for the organization is out of date and a new risk management plan must be developed. Because of the importance of risk management to the organization, senior management is committed to and supportive of the project to develop a new plan. You have been assigned to develop this new plan.

Additional threats other than those described previously may be discovered when re-evaluating the current threat landscape during the risk assessment phase.

The budget for this project has not been defined due to senior management’s desire to react to any and all material risks that are identified within the new plan. Given the company’s annual revenue, reasonable expectations can be determined.

Influences on employee relations

As mentioned previously, there are many influences on employee relations in organizations. One of the most relevant today is the amount of information that is available.

There are numerous sources of information available to us as students, employees, labor union representatives, HRM professionals, and business managers. Before we use information that we have found, however, it is important that we evaluate its authority and appropriateness.
Case Assignment

In this assignment you will be evaluating sources and developing an Annotated Bibliography of your findings.

Review the following articles related to information literacy and others you have found and make a comprehensive list of important factors needed to evaluate sources. (You will need to include this list as an Appendix in your Annotated Bibliography.)

Find three valid sources related to workplace relations from the Trident Online Library and one valid source from the web/internet. Use sources that are outside of module readings that you have not utilized previously in other MSHRM courses. They should be sources “brand new” to you.

List the source citations in APA format under the heading Annotated Bibliography.

Under each source citation, in paragraph form:

Briefly discuss what the source covers and its importance to the topic of workplace relations.
