Internal Control and Accountability
Internal Control and Accountability

You should produce one document which covers the following specific elements; 1. A commercial analysis of the chosen case company (25% weighting). To cover, inter alia, corporate history, the business model (how resources and capabilities are converted into a value), the industry and the wider environment. You should identify the core objectives and strategy of the business using the Porters Five Forces analytical model and SWOT analysis. Credit will be given for the quality of your analysis as well as the suitability of your evidence base and the relevance of your research on the company. 2. Your manager is concerned that the company should be fully accountable for its operations and has asked you to provide a brief review of the literature on accountability so that she can understand the different ideas that have been discussed and what their implications are for your company. (25% weighting). The review of literature should cover at least two articles/chapters that you have read that relate to the element of accountability that is of interest to you. Your review should synthesize the content of your readings and identify any points of conflict between these readings. Credit will also be given for identifying the practical implications of the contents of the readings for the case company and for phrasing the review in a way that is appropriate to the needs of your manager. You will also receive credit for the quality and originality of your sources. 3. A report to management analyzing and evaluating the internal and management control systems of the chosen case company. (50% weighting) In this section you will cover the following points; (a) You should identify one control issue that the company has faced in the last three years. You should describe this issue using a range of sources explaining clearly how the issue arose and what the consequences were for the company. You should then suggest a total of three internal control systems and/or management control systems that you would expect to be in place in the company to mitigate the risk of the control issue you identified previously. You should explain in detail how these suggested controls should operate and discuss any theory that underpins your selection of these controls. Please note that credit will be given for both elements and so you are strongly advised to identify control systems that could/should have prevented the past problems. (b) Evaluate whether you think the company is properly ‘accountable’ for its operations. In doing this you should draw on your review of the literature in 2 and the core objectives of the company that you identified in 1 to reach your conclusions. You may use any definition of ‘accountable’ that you feel is appropriate, provided that you can justify your choice of terms. Word Count: 3500 words Referencing Style: Harvard

Managing and Developing Your Conflict Competence
Managing and Developing Your Conflict Competence

Research Paper One Instructions: You are a middle manager of a Florida state agency in the human resources department. Your boss comes to you and explains that the agency received an anonymous email claiming that an employee was seen being sexually harassed by another employee. Your boss directs you to investigate the anonymous complaint and report the findings. You then read the email, which claims that employee Jones (male) was seen kissing the neck of employee Smith (female) in the lunchroom and employee Smith became angry, stating, “I told you to quit bothering me.” The anonymous complainant indicated that the behavior was offensive and it should be investigated for possible sexual harassment. In response to the complaint, you speak to employee Smith, who claims that the behavior was “no big deal” and that it was all in “good fun” and that Smith does not want to pursue the event any further. You then talk to employee Jones, who became very defensive and denied the behavior. As you continued to interview Jones further, Jones became disrespectful and demanded to know who made the complaint. After refusing to show Jones the complaint, Jones refused to answer more questions and left the office in anger. You subsequently speak to your boss about the conversation and are told to “take care of the matter” without giving Jones any discipline since Jones is the highest producing employee that works at the agency and has had outstanding evaluations for the past 10 years. Your boss further tells you to make sure Jones is “happy” with your resolution to the matter because one of Jones’ relatives works at the Governor’s office and is very influential and has caused trouble for your boss in the past. You then call Jones into your office to “take care of the matter” and make Jones “happy.” Jones is visibly angry and hostile when Jones arrives at your office. Using ONLY the concepts contained in the textbook (NO OTHER REFERENCES SHOULD BE USED) relating to different approaches to speaking with angry and hostile employees, please prepare a paper, in APA format, that discusses what you believe would be the most effective way to resolve this situation. Keep in mind that there is no need to investigate the legal requirements of sexual harassment laws since your boss told you to handle the situation without giving any discipline. Therefore, I am looking for a THOROUGH analysis of how you would employ the skills and techniques mentioned in the text to “take care of the matter” and make Jones “happy.” In addition to the thorough analysis of the skills and techniques used, please include a thorough analysis of why you think the techniques and skills used would be effective. Please note, this paper is NOT about the legalities or issues surrounding a complaint about sexual harassment or a hostile work environment, it is about resolving the issues with techniques found in the textbook. Remember, use techniques found in the textbook, not other sources

This theme will examine the areas of strategic compulsions driving businesses to go global. For instance, e-commerce and Internet activities, hyperactive competition, diversification, active pressure groups, and a motive for corporate social responsibility.
