BEST AND WORST TRAINING EXPERIENCES ESSAY

Most of us have had to participate in some type of training on our jobs, such as new employee orientation, lunch-and-learn workshops, Employee Assistance Program training, technical skill training, employee benefits update meetings, or management development workshops. Some of us have experienced on-the-job training. Others have participated in professional development workshops or skills-based continuing education classes. Think about the best and worst training experiences you have had. What made the best experiences excellent and what made the worst experiences terrible?

Assignment

Write a 10-page essay (not including cover and reference pages) analyzing one of your best training experiences and one of your worst training experiences. Be specific in discussing what made the experiences good or bad. Please review the content of Weeks 4-8 (uploaded files) on learning theories, the design of training, training methods, training evaluation, and transfer of learning. This material should be reflected in your essay.

Your essay should include brief descriptions of the training experiences:

  • The target audience
  •  The objective(s) of the training (see Week 5 in   The training site
  • Training methods used (see Weeks 7 and 8 uploaded files)
  • The major focus of your paper is your analysis.

Your analysis should include:

An assessment of the specific factors that contributed to the success or ineffectiveness of the training; for example, consider these questions:

o          Did the training achieve its objective(s)?

o          Was the training site conducive to learning?

o          Were the methods chosen appropriate for the topic and the audience?

o          Did you have opportunities to practice and receive feedback?

A discussion of the learning theory or theories that you believe guided the training (see Week 4).

A discussion of how your learning as well as the effectiveness of the training were evaluated (see Week 6).

An assessment of the competencies, knowledge, and/or skills demonstrated or not demonstrated by the trainer(s). The ATD competency model (see Week 1 uploaded files) is a good resource.

A discussion of whether or not you transferred what you learned to your job, and what contributed to your successful or unsuccessful transfer (see Week 4 uploaded files).

Your specific recommendations for improving the training, based on what you now know about effective training programs.

The information above should be included in your paper but you are free to organize your essay in whatever way makes sense to you. You may use the first person (I attended a program or the trainer told us) in discussing your experiences. Support your analysis with citations from the readings from this class or other HR courses, and additional resources posted in our classroom. Make sure you define all key terms and cite the source(s) of your definition. Since this is not primarily a research paper, no specific number of references is required. However, you must cite your sources.

Use APA format for all citations, quotations, and references. References should be listed on a separate page as required by APA style. Your paper should be double spaced with one inch margins and a font size of at least 11 points; do not include any spaces between paragraphs or sections.

The Indian rebellion of 1857 Essay Assignment

The Indian rebellion of 1857
The Indian rebellion of 1857

The Indian rebellion of 1857

Essay:

You will be required to write an 6-8 page (1500 – 2000 word) critical essay addressing one of the primary themes that we cover in the class. Possible subjects might be, for example, the establishment of company rule (early colonialism), the economics of high colonialism (the late nineteenth century), the development of nationalism in British India, communal politics in the lead up to partition ñ or other topics of your own choosing (and verified by me.).

Once you have chosen a specific topic for you essay, you should develop a concise argument. That is, you need to advance a specific angle of investigation that is yours. A term paper does need to summarize the arguments and information that you have researched, but it also must reflect your own, independent, analysis of the same. At least three scholarly sources (academic books and peer-reviewed journal articles ñ in print or online) should be used to substantiate your argument. Encyclopedias, textbooks, popular magazines and newspapers are not acceptable scholarly sources. Media outside of scholarly publications (internet sources, movies, etc.) are not acceptable unless approved in writing by the instructor at least three working days before the due date for the essay. An information sheet for citing reference will be posted on the course website. The essay will be graded by the coherency of its structure, the validity of its central premise (thesis), the depth of the research it demonstrates, as well as by its grammar and clarity of prose.

Andre Breton’s First Surrealist Manifesto (1924)

Andre Breton’s First Surrealist Manifesto (1924)

Andre Breton’s First Surrealist Manifesto (1924) and how he set the foundation for surrealism. Use one rule of surrealism and apply it to the movie and write about it as it says below.

A few weeks back we read AndrÈ Breton’s “First Surrealist Manifesto” (1924). In it Breton lays down the blueprints for the movement, establishing some “rules” and combining elements of abstraction and poetry. More than any document, this one clarifies the spirit, style, and tone of surrealism.

Unlike Buuel’s films, for instance, a movie such as The Big Lebowski likely does not intentionally illustrate ideas from Breton’s manifesto. But that doesn’t mean this manifesto (or Surrealism, for that matter) is dead and long forgotten; or that we can’t make connections between these two texts, using either to help us think about the other.

In this short piece, pick one kernel or concept or “rule” from the manifesto, and discuss how it applies to The Big Lebowski. How does the movie, in other words, animate something from this classic document that helps you to understand Surrealism?

No need to write up a traditional introduction and conclusion. I suggest diving right in by introducing and clarifying the idea from the manifesto you want to focus on (quoting a passage is fine). Then discuss how you feel the movie applies or makes use of this concept or rule, and how either or both texts (manifesto and movie) are illuminated in the process.

Employee Voice

Each case study response must be between 2-3 full pages, double-spaced, and in current APA formatting. This assignment must include a title page and reference page (not included in page count). There must be a minimum of 4 scholarly sources, in addition to the textbook.

Case Study 1: The concept of Employee Voice is discussed at length in Chapter 2 of the Budd textbook. Review the reasons for why Human Resource managers might want to develop a strategy for creating employee voice. Then follow the instructions provided below in preparation of Case Study 1.

There are a number of reasons why human resource managers might want to develop a strategy for providing employee voice. Here are some possibilities:

Learning about employee ideas for improved productivity, quality, and cost savings.

Increasing employee satisfaction and loyalty (therefore improving productivity and reducing turnover).

Decentralizing decision making to improve responsiveness and flexibility to changing business needs.

Providing a substitute for a union. (Is this ethical?)

Increasing employees problem-solving, communication, and decision-making skills.

Making work more democratic.

Your Case Study content must address the specific context within the Human Resource Strategy as you select a specific nonunion business situation. Furthermore, the paper must fully address the elements of:

  •  Type of employee voice mechanism
  • Structure of the mechanism
  •  Strategy for success
  • Improvement and impact on effectiveness if a union was present
  •  Which perspective is reflected¨Employee or company
  • Workers in many occupations want a stronger voice in the workplace and there is increasing recognition that this is a fundamental human right. Do you believe that voice in the workplace is a fundamental human right? Why or why not?
  • What fundamental rights can you see in the Bible story of Daniel that Daniel sought to maintain while in captivity? What strategy do you see here?
