Human service Research Assignment

Human service
                                 Human service

Human service

The final paper will consist of a comprehensive demonstration of the attitudes/values, skills, and knowledge of Human Services. In your text, An Introduction to Human Service Policy and Practice, 8th Edition by Betty Reid Mandell and Barbara Schramm, Table 4.1 reveals the list of competencies for the field of human services.

Final Paper Criteria:

  1. Paper will focus on at least one competency for each of the three areas (attitudes/values, skills, and knowledge) listed on page ___ in the text.
  2. Paper topic can be any subject or agency in the field of human services.
  3. A presentation of the competencies chosen and how each was demonstrated throughout the course is expected. For example if a person chose to write on Child Abuse and the competencies picked were:
  • Open-mindedness (attitude/value)
  • Negotiating Contracts (skills)
  • The impact on society and culture (knowledge)

The paper might explore how professionals working at DHS Child Welfare were open-minded and then examples would be given. Next, the paper might explore what type of standards/treatment plans are expected in child welfare or what is expected in treatment for offenders. Finally the paper might explore how many agencies provide services for child abuse and how may be similar and/or different. This would be gleaned from agency reports/visits.

  1. Paper will be double-spaced type with 12 point font.
  2. Paper should be a minimum of 4 pages and a maximum of six (not including bibliography or cover sheet)
  3. A minimum of four reference materials will be used. These references must be from scholarly journals such as Social Work, Health and Social Work, JAMA, Child Welfare, American Journal of Drug and Alcohol Abuse, Journal of Clinical Child Psychology, Social Work Education, Human Services Education, etc.

Newspaper articles will not be accepted.

  1. When using reference materials, please be cautious when citing other individuals’ ideas or thoughts.

Please reference material using APA style. If you fail to give appropriate credit to authors, this is plagiarism. Plagiarism will result in an automatic “zero” for the paper. Plagiarism is also a direct academic violation and may result in further academic disciplinary measures.

  1. Please seek help if you have questions. It is best to work on this paper throughout the semester.

Russia and China Government funding mechanisms

Russia and China Government funding mechanisms
Russia and China Government                        funding mechanisms

Russia and China Government funding mechanisms

Country of Comparison: China

Defined area of focus: Government funding mechanisms

1) Government interest in science/technology

2) Research/competing in global knowledge economy

3) Increasing access for minorities in STEM fields

4) Participation in international partnerships to improve economy/global presence

Rationale

Why does it make sense to compare Russia and China?

  • Neighbouring countries/economic relationship
  • Communist history (Soviet Union)

— Russia relationship with Europe

  • Est. relationship between Higher Education Institutions and corporate/private sector
  • Global presence/expansion

Background

What do you need to know to understand?

  • Communist (Soviet) history in both countries

—Both were centralised; currently different political systems

  • Pressure to participate in global economy

— Issues of capability vs. implementation

  • Two countries impacted differently by financial crisis
  • Different cultures/populations (homogeneity vs. heterogeneity)

Key issues

  • Government interest in science/technology:

— Immunity of the economy and society to innovation, which prevents the practical application of research and development results

— The amount of subsidies that the state allocates to a particular scientific institution depends on the number of employees of this institution, not on the quality and effectiveness of scientific work

  • Research/competing in global knowledge economy:

— Russia lacks partnership with corporations → no innovation/entrepreneurship → little research

— Missing cost sharing opportunities/research & development (R&D) expenditures

— Research/innovation expectation for HE faculty in China

—National Institution of Education Sciences specific focus on research

– Increasing access for minorities in STEM fields:

— Higher education disparities on the basis of gender, ethnicity, rural vs. urban environments

— National entrance exams  (gaokao) and quota policies

– International partnerships:

—Strategies – Internal vs external

—Mutual understandings and participation

—Policies beyond education

Key Recommendations

What policies/practices could work for Russia?

– Emulate Chinese structure of HE/research/corporate integration:

China raises money from businesses to fund business-run schools

Focus Special economic zones on HE needs (ex. Guangdong Province Free Trade Zone)

– Increase funding for HE involvement in R&D sector:

Unlike China, Russian market economy R&D spending doesn’t meet national need

– Political will for nation-wide mandated access policies for minorities

– Build mutually benefitting relationships like FOCAC

– Model visa policies based on China  (for incoming international students)

– Increased autonomy:

Maximize foreign partnerships in 5-100 program

Limitations

What needs further exploration?

  • Different government/economic structures (transferability)
  • Quality/validity of Chinese research; national propaganda influence
  • Lack of transparency in policymaking for both countries
  • China managing massive debt as result of reforms

Philosophy Critical Writing Assignment

Philosophy Critical Writing

Philosophy Critical Writing

THE ASSIGNMENT

  1. Your goal is to construct a critical response to something that we’ve read so far this semester.
  2. To do that, I’d like you to find a claim/theory or argument from one of the texts we’ve read and give reasons for thinking that either the claim/theory is false or that the argument doesn’t work.
  3. The reasons you give should be your own. You should not rely on others’ criticisms.
  4. Relatively, you should not do outside research for this paper.
  5. You may respond to texts that we haven’t read in class provided that they pertain to phenomenal consciousness and you get them approved by me.

  1. Your paper should consist of several elements, in roughly the following order:

a.Briefly introduce your topic (no more than 100 words)

  1. Say which claim/theory/argument you are going to criticize,
  2. concisely state your main criticism, and iii.give some sense of what your reasoning will be.

b.Explain the target (~250-500 words)

  1. A thorough explanation of the claim/theory/argument you intend to criticize.
  2. Make sure to use concrete examples if you can. iii.Make sure to explain how key terms are being used.

c

  1. Explain your reasoning (~250-500 words)
  2. A thorough explanation of you reasons for thinking the claim/theory is false or that the argument doesn’t work.

d

  1. Consider and respond to one or two objections to your reasoning (~250-500 words)
  2. Thoroughly explainone or two ways in which the proponent of the claim/theory/argument that you’re criticizing will respond to your criticisms.
  3. Try to give some reasons for thinking their criticisms won’t succeed.

e.Summarize your results (~150 words)

  1. Remind your reader of your main claim and your argument for it.

4.You’re aiming for somewhere around 1500 words. a.This is mean as a rough guideline. You can go under or over.

b.But, if you’re going significantly under, there’s a decent chance that your paper won’t be detailed enough.

Reconstruction Research Paper Available

Reconstruction
Reconstruction

Reconstruction

TTS is a formal six-page college history paper. In it, you must use evidence from the textbook, the Chapter 14 DP, and the TTS readings for Part 5. You must use no fewer than five of the primary sources included in those three readings (this includes the primary sources included in Chapter 14).

CANNOT USE ANY OUTSIDE SOURCES

ALSO NEEDS TO BE UPLOADED TO TURNITIN

When citing the documents, all of the pages from the text are to be cited (H&L, Ch. 14, p. ?).

The pages that say document project in red can be cited (DP 14.1).

The pages that say document project in black toward the end can be cited (TTS 14.1)

Take the following statement as your starting point (seriously: it’s the kind of sentence that’s perfect to begin a history paper with, so feel free):

” Reconstruction was a struggle between at least three groups: Northern Republicans, Southern Democrats, and the men and women recently emancipated from slavery.

In the next 2-3 pages of your essay, define what historians mean by the term “Reconstruction” and then describe what each of these groups wanted Reconstruction to accomplish and how each proposed to achieve its goals. Use specific examples, and be sure to cite each one. In a history paper, a section like this sets the scene for the changes that follow by sketching the historical context of the paper and introducing the major actors, whether individuals or groups.

Then, in the next 2-3 pages of your essay, describe any changes in the goals of each group between, say, 1870 and 1876 and evaluate the extent to which those goals were met. In this section, you’ll be setting the essay in motion, so to speak, describing how and why events unfolded the way they did.

In your concluding paragraph, explain how your research into this topic can explain the sudden end of Reconstruction in 1877. Do you think Reconstruction should be described as a failure? Once you’ve figured out your answer to that question, return to your introduction and revise it, signaling at the start where your essay will end. This is a final tip in writing essays like this one-your last efforts should be on the introduction.
