Discussion Prompt: What is Beauty?

Before you begin this insightful discussion board, enjoy this short video, https://youtu.be/DqxfzFgOemM by Candace Rose Rardon, illustrated the beautiful sketches.

What do we consider to be beautiful? Does beauty have constancy or does the concept of beauty change depending on the time period? In the text, Lewis and Lewis describe the distortion seen in Botticelli’s Birth of Venus can sometimes create greater beauty. From a magazine, cut out 5 pictures of what you feel is considered beautiful today. Then turn to your textbook and select 5 items from the Renaissance (Chapter 14) that you feel were considered beautiful during that time. Compare the items from the Renaissance with the five contemporary items. What qualities do they share? What are the differences?

Once again, since we are a virtual classroom, photograph/scan your magazine pictures and upload to discussion board.

Daily Consumption Habits Essay Paper

Daily Consumption Habits Essay Paper For Essay 1, you will write a 5-page essay on your daily consumption habits and the values that inform them.

Daily Consumption Habits
Daily Consumption Habits

You will evaluate whether your daily habits are reflective of your personal values, name the values that inform your daily consumption, and process/analyze how these values were developed (culture, family, friends, etc.). As your main argument, you should either motivate others to emulate your daily spending habits or evaluate how your daily spending habits might be harmful. The thesis should, therefore, argue whether the particular spending lifestyle that you selected is good (harmless, healthy, beneficial, etc.) or bad (harmful to the environment, to your body, to relationships, to economies, etc).

Focus on at least three of these factors and how they may have contributed to the particular consumer style that you have chosen to write about: culture, upbringing, socioeconomic status, identity (gender, race, sexual preference, etc.), personal values, personal responsibility, and others. You must incorporate the readings made at the beginning of the semester, and additional research to better persuade your reader of your main points. Several portions of this essay will be written in the first person, however, arguments should be framed in an academic, persuasive style in the third person. You will briefly summarize your daily consumption habits (or one that you choose to focus on) in no more than a page and a half. The majority of the essay should focus on the values that inform consumption, and how these habits are justified or not in your view. Use at least 3-5 external articles to support your points. You may cite articles that we read in class, especially ìThe Elements of Value.î Include a Works Cited page and follow format guidelines provided on the syllabus.

Tip: This essay should follow a Persuasive Essay structure, to convince the reader that your lifestyle choices should be emulated or that your lifestyle choices are not ideal.

Provide research regarding the possible effects of your choices on your health, the environment,

or your relationships.

PLEASE SEE ATTACHMENT FOR CHAPTER 15 TEXT

Please read the text chapter 15 and the five required resources. The links are found in the Module Overview. Please carefully review the Milestone Three Guidelines and Rubric document before completing the assignment. Please review and use the Live Lecture Announcement material to help you complete the final project. Please use the Milestone Three template for organization of the document. Remember, the final project document is about developing a strategic Human Resource Management plan for your former, current or best case employer. All the milestone material is applied to the final assessment.

Please consider the following questions when analyzing diversity and inclusion, risk management, corporate social responsibility, and HR in a global context:

•What laws and regulatory issues should be considered when managing HR globally?
•How does HR ensure the proper selection and preparation of expatriate employees?
•What types of HR initiatives create a positive corporate image of social responsibility and good citizenship?
•How do employees, the organization, and the community benefit from corporate social responsibility initiatives?
•What HR initiatives create diversity, appreciation, and inclusion?
•How do employees, management, and organizations benefit from a healthy work environment of mutual respect and trust?
•What types of HR activities mitigate risk and ensure compliance to federal laws and regulations?
Finally, the key takeaway in Module Seven is HR strategic initiatives related to the workplace HR knowledge domain are aligned to initiatives in the functional areas related to the people and organization HR knowledge domains. When creating
sustainable change through strategic HR approaches, HR initiatives or strategies link to organizational goals and change the corporate culture. For example,
a corporate initiative to enter global markets, from a strategic human resources perspective, begins with the initiative to acquire talent, then prepare that
talent for an expatriate assignment, monitor employee engagement, and properly
manage performance.

The future of work Essay Assignment

The future of work
The future of work

The future of work

Each student will choose two topics on the course outline to research and analyze. The purpose of the brief is to develop research, writing and leadership skills, apply theory to contemporary issues, and analyze key aspects of controversial business issues. The brief is due on the day the topic is discussed in class, and the student will be asked to start the class with a short (verbal) overview of the topic. The brief should be no more than 5 pages in length, 12 pt font, Times New Roman, tightly organized with clear headings. The briefs are to be written individually.

The brief should contain an analysis (not a summary), in your own words, of the issue, with references to current coverage of the issue in the media. This should include the following elements:

a) A description of a particular topic from the book or from the class you wish to analyze
• The point here is not to address or solve a specific company’s problem but to reflect upon the role the particular topic (e.g., “regulation”) plays in the business world and/or in the society at large.
• You may discuss this in the context of a particular company or several companies and a specific issue, but those are just tools or examples to help you get a better understanding of how that particular topic gets discussed in the media and in the business world. For example, the point is not to analyze what Coke should do to cope with the industry structure but what looking at Coke reveals about the problems and challenges that businesses face when dealing with the particular industry structures.

b) Explain how applying the material from the course to the specific issue discussed in the media helps you to understand that issue better.
a. You should not try to use many concepts in a particular chapter to analyze the issue; whatever concept or concept(s) you use, do so accurately, systematically and show how the concept(s) apply(ies).
b. Better use fewer concepts well than more concepts poorly.
c. You may also discuss issues raised in the chapter (and additional readings) in the aggregate (without using just one concept).
d. Show that you understand the particular concept and the issue discussed in the media.

c) Explain your own view on how the business and society issue you chose to analyze should be addressed.
• What is your personal opinion on how the particular issue should be addressed?

Additional issues of note:
• Use sources to support your claims and arguments. In other words, do not just throw claims about what is happening in a particular industry/organization; use references to support your claims.
• The quality of writing is important! Use the document on Sakai to help you avoid various problems identified in it.

Parts (b) and (c) are the core of the brief, and should have other subheadings within them. The key task is to demonstrate understanding of the issue, the relevant theory, the public debate, and to come up with a coherent structure for a paper.

So the first topic i will choose is The future of work, the professor has focused on AI and the gig economy as two trends in work. You can stay with those, or, if you have other thoughts on the future of work, you are free to introduce other trends (with research to back it up).

If it is written well i will assign you to write the second topic and according to APA guidelines.
