Select one of the following topics and write a 5-page paper. Your paper must follow APA guidelines including proper citations of references:
Amnesia due to emotional trauma:
There is scientific consensus that amnesia can be caused by head trauma and other organic causes. More controversial is amnesia caused by emotional trauma. There is little or no experimental evidence for the psychodynamic mechanism of repression. Yet movies portray this as a common event. Do you believe that amnesia can be caused by emotional trauma? What possible underlying mechanism would explain this phenomenon in neurologic terms? What doubts are cast by researches on the validity of psychological amnesia? You must address both the pros and cons of this issue and demonstrate critical thinking, not just advocating one position over the other. Support your paper using the current literature. You may wish to refer to this week’s optional learning resources as a starting point.
Compare and contrast the amnesia associated with bilateral medial-temporal lobectomy and that associated with Korsakoff ’s syndrome. Support your paper using the current literature.

For the first part of this Application, you review the client in the case study in the Learning Resources. Give a DSM diagnosis for the presenting problem. Include an assessment of the client’s ability to function in daily life. Be sure to pay particular attention to symptoms of the disorder and the influence of the disorder on the client as well as the client’s significant other.
For the second part, imagine a 13-year-old female client is brought by her parents to see you. Her parents are concerned because they report their daughter is very unhappy with being a girl. She is increasingly being teased at school because she looks, dresses, and tries to act like a boy. She is an active athlete, but will only play contact sports with boys. The client states she does not like her breasts and wishes she could have them removed. She reports that she has always wanted to be a boy for as long as she can remember. Give a DSM diagnosis for the presenting problem. Include an assessment of the client’s ability to function in daily life. Be sure to pay particular attention to the symptoms of the disorder and the influence it has on the client, as well as the client’s family.
The Assignment (5–6 pages)
A DSM diagnosis of each client
An explanation of your rationale for assigning these diagnoses on the basis of the DSM
An explanation of what other information you might need about each client to make an accurate diagnosis
A brief description of additional individuals you might include in your assessment and explain why
Discuss how you would produce a comfortable environment to lead your clients to discuss their issues.

PsychologicalMeasurement Assessment Tools Objective: To enhance understanding of and provide firsthand experience with the assessment tools other than personality inventories and projective techniques – such as Q-sort.
Background: In addition to personality inventories and projective techniques, there exist numerous other kinds of personality assessment instruments; included are measures of interest, attitude, cognitive style, and situational performance. One technique useful in measuring self-concept is the Q-sort.
Psychological Measurement Assessment Tools
This technique may take many forms but with specific reference to personality assessment typically entails the sorting of cards with different trait terms printed on them; the individual doing the sorting may be instructed to “Place the cards in an order that you deem to be most characteristic of yourself.” After that sorting has been completed and the order recorded, the sorter may next be instructed, “Now place the cards into an order that you deem to be your ‘ideal self’ – the way you’d ideally like to be.” In a counseling or therapy situation, the nature of the self-versus ideal-self discrepancy may provide useful information in terms of areas that will require intervention.
Psychological Measurement Assessment Tools and Task Requirement
Your Task: In this exercise, you will be the test developer, test administrator, test interpreter, and test taker. Your task is fourfold:
1. Create a Q-sort by writing any ten trait terms on ten index cards, one to a card. Note that, if you have difficulty in thinking of trait terms, you should feel free to glance through the personality assessment chapters in your text and pay particular attention to the tables and figures describing the contents of many of the instruments. In the unlikely event that you still have difficulty coming up with ten trait terms, consult Allport and Odbert (1936).
2. Sort the cards according to how you see yourself today, with the first card in your sorting being most characteristic of yourself and the last card in the sorting being least characteristic of yourself. Make a record of your sorting and then shuffle the deck.
3. Sort the cards according to how you would ideally like to be. Here again, the first card in your sorting should reflect the most prominent characteristic of your ideal self, and card number 10 in your sorting should reflect the least prominent characteristic of your ideal self. Make a record of your sorting.
4. Write an interpretation of your findings that includes, at a minimum, (a) an explanation of any observed self/ideal-self discrepancies and (b) an “action plan” for reducing any such observed discrepancies over the course of the next few years. In your write up, include a listing of the ten traits; a listing of the traits that describes your present self; and a listing of the traits that describes your ideal self. All homework is to be typewritten.

2. What implications does this have for your practice with this child? Tell me….(e.g. “Goodness of Fit” – What do you need to consider or need to change to support her needs based on your traits and hers? What is your focus after reviewing your traits and hers?

Personal Model of Educational Psychology Final Research Report
The final research report will build on the critical reflection paper as students develop a personal model of educational psychology throughout the course.
Personal Model of Educational Psychology
For this assignment, students may choose the practice explored in the critical reflection paper or another issue area related to course readings and discussions. Students will write a research paper that explores available research on their topic of choice, evaluates the topic with regards to cultural competency and academic access, and proposes an educational model that either integrates or improves upon the topic explored. For example, students interested in standardized testing may write a paper that explores available literature on testing in elementary schools, includes an analysis of how standardized testing impacts students of different backgrounds, and proposes a model of assessment that improves upon current practices. Papers should be 8-10 pages, 12 point font, double spaced. Students should write in third person and include academic references.
