Read the slides about random sampling, randomization, and response rate (attached below) to review those concepts and definitions, which you will need for the questions for this assignment.

Read the article with an eye to those questions. NOTE: Authors do not always flag these concepts using the terms mentioned below. Look for the ideas, some of which you will have to figure out yourself based on information in the article. If you think that the author omitted information needed to answer one of the questions below, state that in your answer to that question, and comment on the implications of not having that information on a reader’s ability to trust the conclusions of the study.

  2. What was the design of the study? Was it cross-sectional or longitudinal? If longitudinal, how many rounds and at what dates or intervals? (Chapter 2)
  3. Did the study involve a true experiment or was it an observational study? (Chapter 6)
  4. How was the study sample selected? Was a probability sampling method used? If not, what method was used to draw the sample? (Chapter 5)
  5. Describe the study sample, specifying
  6. When (dates)
  7. Where (location from which the sample was drawn)
  8. Who (Were all elements in that time and place eligible for inclusion in the study, or was it restricted to specific subgroups? If subgroups, which ones?)
  9. How many respondents at baseline
  10. Response rates (Chapters 5,7)
  11. What was the response rate, reported as a percentage of those the authors selected for the study?
  12. Does it appear likely that those who did not respond or participate were markedly different from those who did participate? If so, in what ways?
  13. Did the author(s) adequately discuss the issue of differential non-response?
  14. If the study was longitudinal, also report attrition rate (loss to follow up).
  15. What were the one or two main findings of the study? HINT: These should be directly related to the main question of the study (see your answer to question #1). Often they are summarized in the abstract to the article and/or the conclusion section.
  16. Did the authors think the sample was generally representative of the population from which it was drawn? (Chapter 5)

Human Behavior Article Summary and Questions

Human Behavior Article Summary and Questions You need to read an assigned article and write half a page for each question below.

Human Behavior Article Summary and Questions
Human Behavior Article Summary and Questions

Please answer each question separately (i.e., answer to question #1, answer to question #2,

Etc.). Do not combine all of your answers into one big paragraph. I will provide 4 articles and you can choose the one you want.

Human Behavior Article Summary and Questions

  1. What is the theory being tested (the idea being tested) in this study?

To answer this question, you will read the Introduction of the article. It will tell you about the idea the authors chose to examine in their study. What aspect of human behavior are they testing? Discuss this idea in your own words. You might want to make use of your textbook. You can match up the ideas presented in the article with material from the text (looking for similar concepts). Nonetheless, the information that you will need to answer this question will come from the article itself.

  1. What hypothesis (or hypotheses) are the authors testing in this study?

Human Behavior Article Summary and Questions

To answer this question, you are going to report the articles hypothesis (or hypotheses). This particular answer will bring you close to quoting the article (but I still want everything put into your own words). In addition, explain what this hypothesis means. A hypothesis is a pretty direct statement/claim, so explain this statement in plain language (as if you were explaining it to someone who doesn’t understand psychology).

  1. How are they proposing to test these hypotheses?

To answer this question, you are going to tell me a bit about what the authors did in their study.

They have proposed a hypothesis, and then they designed a study to test that hypothesis. You must tell me how they tested that hypothesis (i.e., they brought participants into a lab and had them fill out questionnaires, or they had participants walk across a very high rope bridge and then measured how their fear arousal influenced their attraction to a confederate, etc.).

Human Behavior Article Summary and Questions

  1. What were the findings and the meaning of this study?

What are the results of this study? Were the hypotheses supported? If so, how? If not, what did the authors find? What do these findings mean? To answer these questions, you do not need to get into page 4 specific numbers; I want you to present the results in general. Tip: In many articles, the authors will summarize their results at the beginning of the discussion section (after the results section). Often, this summary is easier to understand the results section

Specifically marriage arrangments and the character’s dissatisfaction. One of the most disempowering assumptions about role models is that the role has to be assigned to you by society once you have “arrived”, or that you have to wait to be deemed good enough to be one. This is simply untrue, although interestingly it is often once we become established in our careers that we feel compelled to give back.

What’s a summary analysis, you say? The granddaddy of all political science, Harold Lasswell, is known for defining Politics.

Texas Government Current Event Article Discussion

, Ideological values, beliefs, and opinions, aside, when it comes to government and politics, his definition of the word (ironically) is probably the only thing that all mankind can agree on. Lasswell, defines politics, as “who gets what, where, when, and how”. Apply that definition to the article’s information, or the article’s information to that definition, and write a 10 sentence summary that focuses on critically evaluating what is going on, from your personal perspective. Interject your opinion. You should be making a statement, argument, and your opinion about the subject matter should be known.

However, this needs to be done in a scholarly and academic manner. Focus on explanation, reason, and rationalization, to provide a clear opinion statement and discussion of their personal perspective and political position towards the event or issue in their article. In addition, to receive full credit, students MUST include a direct link to the original article’s text that they are using to complete this assignment.

Part 2- students will review summary analyses submissions, made in part 1, and offer a rebuttal to a classmate’s current event analysis, which opposes their own. MOST IMPORTANTLY, BE CONSTRUCTIVE in your critiques; and RATIONAL in your explanation of your perspective. Rebuttals must be 5-10 sentences in length.

Both parts are to be submitted to this discussion board. Reply directly to the original post of your peer, when completing

You must complete part 1, and post your article with the summary analysis before you will be able to review and respond to the posts of your peers.

The assignment will be uploaded to Turn-it-in

*The assignment will not be accepted if the article is over 5 pages to include the cover and the reference page.

The article review should consist of the following sections:

Reason for choosing the article (introduction to the review)

Why this one? You can include a personal reaction to the issue/topic and the article itself here.

A brief summary of what the article is about

I suggest you write this immediately after reading your article…when it is freshest in your mind. Summaries are difficult for most of us to do…so think of it as your “impression” of what it is about. This is not the place for detail after detail…that’s not a summary. A summary contains a balanced presentation of relevant ideas about the article so that…another person is able to tell what it is about. The suggested length is 1/2…much over a page and you are really beyond summarizing.

Assessment of the article

This is the core of the review. I want you to assess the article critically…which doesn’t necessarily mean negatively.

Critically” here means going beyond surface reactions, delving into the why’s of the author’s thoughts and writing. For instance, what did you think of the article…what about the main theses/purposes of the author? How well did the author(s) state and support their position? What do they use to do so? What else do you feel needs to be said or examined besides the points the author(s) made? What relationship did the article have to your area of study? Could this article help you in your line of work?

Article Critique of the Banuazizi and Movahedi 1975 Conclusion of the review

This should be where you wrap it up and no more than a paragraph. Perhaps a final, overall summary of what you read and what more you would like or not like to see about the topic.
