The critique should be written in APA format- double spaced, Times New Roman, 12 font

There should be a cover page, 2 – 3 pages for the review, and a reference page (if you use any references from other articles or your textbook, please put them as a reference)

*The assignment will not be accepted if the article is over 5 pages to include the cover and the reference page.

The article review should consist of the following sections:

Reason for choosing the article (introduction to the review)

Why this one? You can include a personal reaction to the issue/topic and the article itself here.

A brief summary of what the article is about

I suggest you write this immediately after reading your article…when it is freshest in your mind. Summaries are difficult for most of us to do…so think of it as your “impression” of what it is about.

This is not the place for detail after detail…that’s not a summary. A summary contains a balanced presentation of relevant ideas about the article so that…another person is able to tell what it is about. The suggested length is 1/2…much over a page and you are really beyond summarizing.

Assessment of the article

This is the core of the review. I want you to assess the article critically…which doesn’t necessarily mean negatively.

“Critically” here means going beyond surface reactions, delving into the why’s of the author’s thoughts and writing.

For instance, what did you think of the article…what about the main theses/purposes of the author? How well did the author(s) state and support their position?

What do they use to do so? What else do you feel needs to be said or examined besides the points the author(s) made? What relationship did the article have to your area of study? Could this article help you in your line of work?

Article Critique of the Banuazizi and Movahedi 1975 Conclusion of the review

This should be where you wrap it up and no more than a paragraph. Perhaps a final, overall summary of what you read and what more you would like or not like to see about the topic.

NBA: Big payoff for a little patch Article Review

-Directions: Read the Sport Business Journal article titled NBA: Big payoff for a little patch. If you are unfamiliar with the NBA jersey patch program, I would recommend you google it and get background information. Next, write an analysis of the NBA jersey patch program using the three sections below. The response is expected to be 1-2 pages, double spaced. Each paragraph should include an introductory statement, 3-5 sentences of supporting information, and a conclusion sentence.
-To be clear, you do NOT have to answer every single question in the prompt. Your response should not feel like a list of question/answer responses, but instead should include your own analysis of the patch program based on the prompts in each section. Inserting your opinion is fine as long as it is part of the analysis. Remember, you are viewing this from a business perspective. You may include outside sources if you wish, but please make your best attempt at citing them correctly if you do. For the first response, I will not take off points for improperly cited sources.

1) Measuring Success: The article is fairly clear that the NBA jersey patch program has been successful. What are some of the ways that this success has been measured? Can you think of additional ways to measure the success or failure of these partnerships that are not mentioned in the article?

2) Weighing Risks: The article mentions that there has been very little backlash from the program. However, jersey sponsorships are very uncommon in American sport, and this decision was a huge risk to the NBA. List a few groups of people who you think may not have been happy with this decision. Are they a major group? Would you be worried about them? What would you expect their concerns to be? If you were in charge of the NBA communications, how would you address these concerns?

3) Retail: The NBA feels that the next step for the jersey patch program is retail distribution. What does this mean? What risks are you taking by making the patches retail? What benefits will the jersey patch partners receive? Do you think this is a good idea? Why or why not?

An Article on the Parkland shooting Response

An Article on the Parkland shooting Response Read this article on the Parkland shooting response:

Then read this article on the one-year anniversary: https://www.nytimes.com/2019/02/13/us/parkland-shooting.html

Choose three of the following eight theories/factors presented in this course: American political institutions (Meyer); resource mobilization (Edwards and McCarty, Olson); political process (McAdam); social ties (Munson); emotions (Gould); social structure (Piven and Cloward); innovation (McAdam); signaling (Fassiotto and Soule). Use each of your chosen theories to analyze the successes or failures of the gun control movement, using the newspaper articles as your empirical data on the movement.

For each theory, explain how the theory would explain the movement’s ability or failure to mobilize supporters, sustain momentum, and/or achieve its goals, based on the empirical evidence available. Please conclude by briefly evaluating the theories against each other: which seem to have the most explanatory power, and why? If one would have predicted success where the movement met failure (or vice versa), explain why that might be. Ground all your claims in theory and evidence, rather than personal opinion.

Cite specific pages in at least one source for each theory as well as the NYTimes articles on the movement (i.e., at least five sources should be in your Works Cited page); provide at least four citations per page. You may use up to two other non-assigned sources on the movement, but it is not required.

Papers should be 4-6 pages, double spaced, 12 point Times New Roman. This means each theory should take you at 1-1.5 pages, with an intro and conclusion of about Ω page each (your conclusion might be up to a page). Please include a Works Cited page, but do not count it in your 4-6 page minimum.

Please see the uploaded Grading Rubric for more information on how I will be grading these.

Read the articles by Leonhardt and Coates and develop a rhetorical analysis that argues why one article is more persuasive than the other. The essay must make a claim that features at least two distinct reasons as to why one article is more persuasive than the other, as well as counterpoints for why the opposing article is less convincing (or more persuasive) on certain points. Make sure to cite where each article uses any of the rhetorical appeals (pathos, ethos, logos, or kairos), and try to organize your body paragraphs based on which rhetorical appeal the article is successful or deficient in.
