You may supplement these resources with others as necessary: newspaper articles, non-peer reviewed web writing, and other reliable sources of factual information.

In terms of research, you should seek out academic sources that help shape and guide your ideas.

You may need a popular source or two to support a good description of the cultural phenomenon/artifact/era/event that you’re writing about, but to really give you a foundation to work from, you also need scholarly resources.

Google Scholar is also an excellent resource to help shape your research. In terms of more popular sources, scholars often look to big newspapers and magazines ‘of record’ to support their ideas.

Technology Synthesis Essay

Assignment description:
Now that you have the skills to write a response paper, we are going to apply these skills to research analysis. You will write a synthesis paper on the topic of technology.

Technology is a very broad topic, so it will be up to you to decide what you will focus on and narrow the scope of your paper appropriately. You will be expected to do your own research, and use said research to develop an argument for your paper.

You must also use different forms of quotations to support your arguments. These quotations must be appropriately formatted using MLA formatting guides.

Objectives for developing writing skills:
This writing assignment is meant to develop the following skills: ability to

1) write a synthesis paper.

2) research a topic using library and internet resources.

3) take organized and functional notes.

4) use research to develop one’s own ideas and perspectives.

5) develop strong thesis statements.

6) organize writing in a coherent manner that allows for easy reader comprehension.

7) use MLA formatting guides to appropriately quote or reference sources both within the essay and in a works cited page.

Common pitfalls to avoid:

• When writing a synthesis paper, students often have a difficult time determining how broad of a question they should answer.

Many students find that their thesis is either 1) too broad, making it difficult to discuss in depth the issues at hand; making the paper too shallow in content, or 2) not broad enough. This would cause you to not have enough content to discuss in your paper.

It is therefore important to design a thesis statement that will allow you to discuss a specific topic, so that you can add both the appropriate amount of depth and length to your paper.

• With synthesis papers it is sometimes easy to lose track of your original point. When outlining your paper, make sure that each of your main points can be related back to your thesis statement.

• It is also important to check your sources to make sure that the quotes you are using as support for your argument are actually applicable to your argument.

Many students simply add quotes in their papers because they perceive the addition of quotes, in general, as improving their paper. Unfortunately, when a quote is not appropriately used, it can actually take away from the meaning of the paper.

Grading criteria:
Your essay will be graded on the following criteria:
• Thesis statement is fully developed and covers an appropriate amount of information (10 pts)
• Essay shows thoughtfulness/critical thinking about the topic (20 pts)
• Ideas are fully developed and supported with sufficient evidence/discussion (20 pts)
• Introduction and conclusion are well developed and the paper is organized in an effective way (20 pts)
• Essay appropriately follows MLA formatting guides (10 pts)
• There are minimal errors in grammar (10 pts)
• Essay is formatted appropriately (5 pts)
• Essay meets length requirement (5 pts)

VLAN save A Company Time and Money

VLAN save A Company Time and Money How does a VLAN save a company time and money?

A VLAN or virtual local network is an interrelated group of hosts with similar tasks or jobs.

VLAN save A Company Time and Money
VLAN save A Company Time and Money

A VLAN allows the network to work virtually. They are not conjoined physically. VLANs are cost-efficient because they provide flexibility with network administration and configured software (Chowdhury & description , 2010).

How does a VLAN provide extra security for a network?

VLANs can provide extra security for a network. It does this by providing flexibility within the topological structure. VLANs also allows it within the network to be accessed. It provides control to do such a task. To add, a three-layer switch configuration enables the switching of data to be completed. Lastly, VLAN work in isolation to transmit data messages within different local area networks (Zhao, 2013).

How does a VLAN reduce network traffic?

VLANs reduce network traffic. It does so by grouping users into a broadcast domain. However, it is important for there to not be too many users in the user group because of this effects performance.  To prevent this from happening, the user groups need to be further separated or grouped.  ìObviously, the more VLANs into which a user group is partitioned, the smaller the average broadcast domain of the VLANs isî (Li et al., 2015).

What is the basis for membership in a VLAN?

MAC addresses, IP addresses, port numbers, IP multicast addresses can all be the basis for membership in a VLAN. These components can also be combined.

VLAN save A Company Time and Money Biblical Perspective

VLANs enable interrelated networks to work as one virtually. Ecclesiastes 4:9-12 states, “Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up. Also, if two lies down together, they will keep warm. But how can one keep warm alone? Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken” (NIV).

When components work together, the outcome can serve as beneficial as long as all components are on the same page. We as humans must work together in different aspects of our lives. One example of this is a company with many partitioned departments. Individual departments must do their jobs to benefit the company as a whole. The same concept goes for computer networking, specifically VLANs. The devices within more than one LAN must communicate as if they are conjoined. Although the devices of the network are not physically joined together, they logically work to produce an outcome.
