Communication in Business and Cultural Diversity

Communication in Business and Cultural Diversity A Formal Report Think about a situation where you will need to write a formal report on a topic that is crucial to your work or business.

Communication in Business and Cultural Diversity
Communication in Business and Cultural Diversity

You can write about cultural diversity, children, communication with teenagers, communal service, or any other topic that is relevant to you and your coworkers. In your plan, consider the purpose, the intended use of the report, main questions you wish to address- and your report is intended to answer, resources of information you look at, and so on.

Pay attention to the different sections: – The letter of Transmittal is optional, but it provides a frame of reference where you can express your gratitude and appreciation. It also reminds us that this is, after all, a course and this is your final project… – p. 315-320 should be found in your report as well. This is, in fact, the body of your work. Again, you should specify according to your topic, but the idea is more or less similar. -p.320, the table is optional, yet if it adds to and fits your topic- I recommend. Please note that not every section applies to your topic, but make sure to elaborate wherever you can exemplify, and support.

Here is a wonderful formal report on a very intriguing and relevant topic: “The Effects of Stress on Business Employees.” http://www.wright.edu/~david.wilson/eng3000/samplereport.pdf Please take a look at the subtopics this report offers: study, the scope of the study, and review of related literature. It might be relevant also to some of your topics.

Choose one of these theories and explain what it involves and how it can help us understand how society is affected by media. (remember to include quotations if using a definition) 3) In addition, describe a specific example from your own life or from your observations of others that illustrates the theory. You can describe how others are behaving if you don’t want to describe yourself, but it has to be something you’ve witnessed.

Prompt 2 Chapter 2:
In the chapter it also explains some possible concerns/flaws with these theories. 1) Please discuss a limitation/weakness associated with the theory you chose in Prompt 1 and explain why this theory may not always accurately explain our response to media. 2.) What is the difference between the Week 5 Position Paper and the Week 7 Analysis Paper?

In the Week 5 Position Paper essay, you wrote about one side of an issue. In the Week 7 Analytical Writing a paper, you will write about two sides of an issue in order to sound less biased and in order for your essay to be more objective and balanced. When we talk about one side of an issue, we sound biased to the reader, so to give our paper a more professional, objective and credible tone to the reader, we will write about both sides of an issue. We write both sides of an issue by adding a counterargument and rebuttal paragraph to our 5 paragraph essay structure. To find out more about counterargument and rebuttal paragraphs, Take a look at this counterargument and rebuttal PowerPoint.

Do not use the same topic you used for your Week 5 paper. You have to choose another debatable topic from your field for this paper.

Communication is used to inform to Urge and to Probe Analysis Essay Structure

Make sure each paragraph has 5 to 7 sentences. Your introduction paragraph should include a hook (first sentence to grab the reader’s attention); then 5 to 7 supporting sentences to tell why the thesis is important. Then your thesis is the last sentence of the first paragraph. Watch this Introduction and Conclusion paragraph video to learn how to write your Introduction and conclusion paragraphs.

Example thesis: Milk is healthy because of Reason 1, Reason 2 and Reason 3.

Para 2: Reason 1

Para 3: Reason 2

Para 4: Reason 3

Para 5: Counterargument paragraph (Write about the other side)–Milk is not healthy because arming teachers with guns will help deter mass school shootings because….)

Para 6: Rebuttal paragraph (Go back to your argument that milk is healthy and rebut the other side point by point)

Para 7: Conclusion

Example thesis: Milk is healthy because it aids in appetite control, it increases bone development, and it increases heart health.

Para 2: Milk aids in appetite control.

Para 3: Drinking milk increases bone development in children.

Para 4: Milk increases heart health in adults.

Para 5: Counterargument–argue the other side–Milk is not healthy because it may have growth hormones and added antibiotics. Milk is not healthy because it can cause skin conditions such as eczema and acne.

Para 6: Rebuttal argument–return to your argument–Despite milk’s drawbacks, the overall benefits of drinking milk outweigh the risks because–then rebut the other side.

Para 7: Communication is used to inform to Urge and to Probe Conclusion

When we write the conclusion paragraph, just restate the thesis statement as the first sentence in the last paragraph. Then, for your conclusion paragraph, write 5 sentences highlighting the main points of the essay without adding new information and give the reader pointers on what to do or think next pertaining to your topic. Watch this Introduction and Conclusion paragraph video to learn how to write your conclusion paragraphs.

*Use only third person case in your essay. Do not use first person case (I, my, us, we) in your essay. Do not use second person case (you and you are) in your essay. Use third person case he/she/they for a more professional tone.* Watch this third-person case video.

Wrong sentence and wrong tone (first person case)– I took steroids while playing sports and now I am suffering side effects from the steroids. Using the first-person case is too personal.

Wrong sentence and wrong tone (second person case)–You should not take steroids while playing sports because you will suffer side effects from the steroids. Using second person case sounds too preachy.

Correct sentence and third person case–Barry Bonds took steroids while playing sports. (Smith, 22)–Third person case sounds more professional.

Consider the following as you write:

PURPOSE: Analytical Writing

AUDIENCE: author, instructor, others interested in the field

LENGTH: 500-750 words (Times New Roman font)

SOURCE MINIMUM: 5 totals- at least one should be from a professional organization

FORMAT STYLE: the citation style that is appropriate for your discipline
