This form of bullying interferes with the learning environment of students, disrupting learning. It is normally an ongoing narrative and can be overlooked by teachers in the hidden “jargon” of students. It may escalate to the level of a misdemeanour, the charge being that of cyber-harassment.  If the student is old enough, the charge can be altered to that of juvenile delinquency. Reports of suicide and fatal revenge attacks have resulted because of cyber-bullying (Betts, 2016).

The Ethical and moral use of social media begins with having a personal code of conduct, delineating what is acceptable and not. Personal accountability is the pillar with which to benchmark our actions in the responsible use of social media (Betts, 2016). The person I chose to share the gospel with is my friend Allyson Sy and we met at Starbucks Coffee on Feb. 7, 2017, at 4:00 pm because she was feeling down. This is why I shared the gospel to her that has a message about miracles. When I read the gospel to her which is John 2:1-11, she was skeptical of the part when Jesus turned water into wine because, according to her, there is no such thing as a miracle. Hence, she said that it never happened, but after some time, she began to open her mind to the possibility.

I did not allow her doubt to discourage me because I gave examples of little miracles that happen in daily life. For instance, how a person feels relieved after praying if she has been feeling unloved and lost. That miracles do not always happen in big crowds like the wedding in Cana at Galilee. That event had to happen because there were a lot of people and it was a banquet that symbolized the messianic era. There was also the faith of a mother in her son because all she had to do was tell Jesus there is not enough wine and he did the miracle.

If someone who does not self-identify as a Christian hears about this story, he or she might even laugh at me. Since Allyson is my friend, despite her skepticism, she continued to listen to my explanation. Meanwhile, I was also very careful not to make her feel that I am imposing anything to her. I have had experiences where people have become defensive of their beliefs because someone provoked them to. By making Allyson feel that I do not condemn her for not being a self-identified Christian, her reaction was lighter. And out of curiosity, she started to ask questions.

She wanted to know why his disciples did not believe Jesus’ ability to perform miracles. What happened at the wedding proved them wrong and they started to believe in him because that was clearly not a coincidence. They had no wine at first and Jesus filled 6 jars that held 30 gallons each. The disciples did not believe Jesus at first because they have never met anyone like that before and blasphemy was very common during that time. In the same way, Allyson thought I was being foolish, but she eventually opened her heart.

This is an encounter that I will not forget because it gave me a chance to open someone’s doors to the reality of miracles. Especially because that person is one of my good friends. I also related Jesus’ experience to how people doubt a leader at first until he or she proves them wrong. Jesus and his disciples can be compared to a group of friends who have been through a lot, got lost, and needed a credible leader to clear their path. This is something that can happen to a person, a company, or a peer group. There is always someone who has to take the lead so that everyone is safe.

After I talked to her about it, she gained more insights about life and why people tend to admire someone they can look up to. Since we still had time, I invited her to pray with me and told her that I will lead the prayer. She agreed because, since the does not self-identify as a Christian, she is not good with spontaneous prayers. I recited a prayer of thanksgiving and related it to the experiences we had. It was a 3-minute prayer that was enough to let her feel the power of prayer. She thanked me for the experience because it is not every day that she will encounter someone like me, and we happily ended our meeting.

Therefore, this means, changing the way in which the firm is managed, leading to effective integration.

To adequately integrate technology into a philosophical perspective, the organization should recruit champions to play the role of enthusiastic welcomes.  These champions can be used as channels to change the attitude of those resisting the adoption of rapidly developing technology (Long et al. 2013).  In this case, the organization purposes to transition from management based change to a change that involves a partnership between the management and employees, which is effective in many instances to convince resistors.

Again, human resource professions can be used to help implement technology through their efforts of restructuring the company. Since technological development is evolving at a rapid speed, human resource personnel can hire competency workers, in turn, increase efficiency and performance (Naude, et al. 2012). Nevertheless, human resource personnel should ensure that workers recognize the firm’s main priorities. This can be achieved by explaining to the employees the firm’s vision and the relevance of technology adoptions.

Furthermore, for effective incorporation of technology in the firm, the human resource experts should be in a position to change by aligning the corporate activities with modern tools that increase profitability (Ulrich, et al. 2012). Performance of Employees within Oil and Gas Companies Literature Review

After the decision of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states in the year 2014 not to cut the production of oil following the drop in oil prices, the cost of a barrel of oil has significantly fallen to its lowest since 2015. According to Milmo (2016), the drop in oil prices, in this case, affects the economy of Qatar since the stock markets around the world are significantly affected by these drops (pp.38). The decrease in oil prices in Qatar was brought about by several factors that include the following: changing policy objectives of the GCC member states, the increasing decline in global oil product demands, and an increase in oil production from other oil producing economies. Additionally, the decrease in GCC’s geopolitical concerns that appertain to supply disruptions in other countries that depend on oil from Qatar is another challenge that has resulted in the drop in oil prices.

Krane (2015) supports the views of Milmo (2016) by stating that in as much as several O+G importing countries have immensely benefited from the drops in oil prices, the effects and impacts of these price drops may not be positive worldwide (pp.16). However, Marais (2016) contrasts to the views of other authors since he alleges that Qatar significantly seems to be immune to the effects of price drops in its oil products. According to Lin (2011), employee performance involves the successful completion of duties and responsibilities as developed by the supervisors and top managers of an organization (pp.895). In this case, the performance of employees according to these authors may be considered in the perspective of three elements that enable them to perform better, with the determinacy of their performance considered as wholly dependent on their declarative knowledge, motivations and procedural knowledge. In short, it is essential to establish that effective human resource practices have a positive impact on the performance of employees within an organization.

As a result of the drops in oil prices in Qatar, Das et al. (2013, pp. 52) noted that there are five internal human resource management practices that affect the performance of employees. This consequently includes organizations efforts directed towards eliminating recruitment packages and competitive compensation levels, the elimination of training and development, including personal appraisals and the layoff of staff members with the aim of stabilizing the functions of these organizations. In this case, organizations are forced to restructure their systems and functions during such periods in order to remain competitive in the market as stated by Hu and Kaplan (2015). The sharp decline in oil prices has tipped several companies into recession, an aspect that has slumped investment levels within the O+G industry. Several employees have been laid off as a result of this slump, thus affecting the functions of HRM within the organizations (Hu & Kaplan 2015, pp. 125). In their article, Hu and Kaplan (2015) have clearly pointed out how the layoffs of employees within this sector affect various operations of oil and gas companies, including a decline in production of goods and services within these projects such as O+G ripping services, engineering and construction services.

The decline in oil prices has caused employees in O+G organizations in the state of Qatar to experience various external issues that impact their performance. Jaffe and Elass, (2015) purported that the drop in oil prices has in fact led to the cancellation of a series of projects within the energy companies’ proposals, which has, in turn, resulted in significant job cuts. Several foreign expatriates have also left Qatar for holidays and also to take their families back to their home nation. According to Jaffe and Elass (2015), this results from the outcome of the efforts of O+G corporations that are aimed at establishing the right-sizing of their organization’s human resources. The low oil price makes it more challenging for drillers to repay their loans that are taken to enhance the process. These results in lower cash flows and interest rates on some of the new loans that are consequently higher thus affecting different individuals who would require loans from banks.

Once the lowering of oil prices are experienced in states such as Qatar, the prices of different commodities also fall to levels that make different products available for consumers, an element that cuts down the shares of production on different commodities (Kilian, & Vigfusson 2011, pp.336). When the production of commodities drops and prices are fixed on the concept of affordability, an aspect that cuts back on several aspects such as housing, food, and cars, thus impacting the employees of different organizations is experienced.

Human resource managers in O+G companies in Qatar and other oil producing countries in the region need to first hire people who have the right qualifications and skills for the job. Following the completion of the hiring process, the HR professionals should seek to make sure that the work of a staff member is aligned closely with the objectives and goals of the company. In order to attain strong employee work performance, HR managers execute training and development programs, carry out employee performance evaluations, and choose when to reassign and/or promote staffs (Hsin-Hsi 2012).

The job performance of employees within an organization is affected in a negative and positive way by various factors. Example of these factors includes organizational culture, style of leadership used, training and development, the personality trait of employees, motivation, workplace environment, job stress, job satisfaction, as well as organization structure among other factors. Managers in O+G companies need to be aware of the many factors affecting the work performance of their employees and strive to improve them (Dutton & Kleiner 2015). Business organizations are dependent on their human resources to deliver and produce high-quality services and/or products. It is important that O+G companies in Qatar and in other oil producing and exporting nations in the region allocate sufficient amount of money for training their employees in order to improve their skills as well as knowledge regularly. As the skills and knowledge of employees increases, so does their job performance and achievement.

The working environment – according to Root (2014), the working environment has a great influence on the achievement and performance of employees in O+G companies. A positive working environment includes colleagues who are supportive and friendly, leaders and top managers who give positive motivation in the workplace, and comfortable work environment. In an uncomfortable working environment with leaders who undervalue workers and colleagues who are hostile, the work performance of an employee is likely to reduce (Root 2014). On the whole, the workplace environment is an important factor in terms of keeping staff members in an O+G company satisfied.

In their survey, Hsin-Hsi (2012) found that 10 percent of the surveyed workers reported that the workplace environment was a vital factor in keeping them contented whereas other crucial aspects included compensation, recognition, and praise as reported by 29 percent of those surveyed. Employees who are satisfied and contented with their work environment are inclined to exhibit high work performance. Other important factors are promotions and engaging in recreation activities at the workplace which are helpful in improving health, increasing self-esteem and confidence, reducing stress, and relaxing the mind. Leadership style: there are many styles of leadership including participative, charismatic, transformational, democratic and autocratic styles among others. Furthermore, tone at the company’s senior management level is utilized in describing the culture of an organization. While a negative tone could result in absences, employee dissatisfaction, vandalism, and even theft, a positive tone could help the workers to become happier and more productive, which in turn help to improve their job performance (Lefifi 2015).

Organizational cultures could have different impacts on the levels of motivation and performance of the workers. In many instances, staff members work harder to attain the goals and objectives of their company if they see themselves as being part of the organizational culture. The culture of an organization offers a framework regarding the behavior of workers within the organization. The effect of culture on the performance of employees could either be negative or positive. According to Nag (2011), the culture of an organization in which staff members are seen as a vital element of the company’s growth process promotes the commitment of staffs toward the company. They align their objectives as well as goals with the goals/objectives of their company and feel responsible for the company’s overall well-being. As their efforts are consequently recognized by the organization’s top managers and rewarded, the workers have great job satisfaction. Conversely, in companies in which managers are taskmasters rather than being facilitators, staffs live in mistrust and fear, and work is a dull and unexciting chore. An O+G company in which various departments do not cooperate will end up having staff members working in silos. For this reason, negative factors that hold back the job performance of workers should be eliminated so as to promote a positive corporate culture or positive workplace environment (Root 2014).

Motivation: to obtain the best work performance from workers in O+G companies, it is important to have some type of motivation besides the monthly payment. Saira et al. (2016) stated that motivation could be in the form of a career path which actually leads to management, a chance to take part in company projects, or even monetary incentives. Effective motivation could make employees more productive. If there are no motivating factors, however, workers could be left looking for reasons to do their best at work and give their maximum effort. Hsin-Hsi (2012) reported that motivation is an essential driving force to attain any given task.

The two kinds of motivation are extrinsic and intrinsic motivation. While extrinsic motivation is founded upon external sources, intrinsic motivation is understood as the inner force of the employee to achieve a particular objective or goal (Hsin-His 2012). The level of employee motivation has a direct impact on the performance of workers in O+G companies in Qatar. It is notable that together with skills, abilities, and knowledge, motivation is a vital aspect that actually contributes to the job performance of an employee. Researchers have found that positive reinforcement improved employees’ level of performance from 44% to 96%, since regular feedback as well as recognition gave the workers the psychological feeling that in fact influenced their work performance positively and strongly (Ewenstein, Hancock & Komm 2016).

Motivations can also be categorized as fear motivation, incentive motivation or achievement motivation. Fear motivation – punishment and fear of punishment greatly influence workers to carry out their tasks effectively. Achievement motivation – every person has a need for achievement. The need for achievement is an essential aspect of human personality. People who have a high level of achievement motivation generally have the willingness of going very far to attain their objectives and goals, in spite of hurdles and impediments in their way (Lefifi 2015).

Organizational structure: Organizational structures define the departmental structure, supervisory relationships, as well as workflow in an organization. The structure of an organization is focused not just on the layout of departments within an organization, but also on work responsibilities in the context of reporting relationships (Latifi & Shooshtarian 2011). Critical review

Trief and colleagues investigated the psychosocial challenges of adults who live with diabetes type 1, and ways the psychosocial challenges impact the relationship of their partners. The aim of the study was to gain a better understanding of these psychosocial issues in order to practice effective management of chronic diseases.  The study design is focus group research. The research method is qualitative research. This research method befits this research study because data generated from the focus group is based on insights (not rules) of human behaviors. This is because the study allows all the participants to contribute in the discussion as the researchers listen to discussion content such as tone and emotions of the participants, which help the study to either learn or confirm facts. In addition, this method of research helps to paint a portrait of local perspectives such as the regions knowledge of diabetes Type 1, and educational resources available. The focus group selection criteria ensured people have similar characteristics are invited to a single session.  For example, there four focus groups where two had patients diagnosed with diabetes type 1 and two with their partners- which increased the quality of data (Trief et al. 2013).

Ways psychosocial challenges influence patient/family response to chronic illness

The research indicate that patients diagnosed with type 1 diabetes face unique emotional as well as interpersonal challenges such as substance abuse disorders, medication non-adherence, eating disorders and poor quality of life. The study identifies four domains including a) impact of diabetes on a patient relationship with the caregiver/partner including the emotional impact of diabetes and issues regarding child rearing; b) learning the importance of hypoglycemia; c) stress associated to potential complications; d) advantages of technology (Trief et al. 2013).

According to the article, a small group of people highlighted that the disease had brought their relationship closer. Patients with supportive was associated with defined acceptance of the chronic illness, which in turn assured the patient that she/he could get through the hard times. However, some participants indicated a negative impact of diabetes type 1 on their relationship. This indicated included increase emotional distance such as sexual intimacy issues, difficult decision making processes, and concerns of children care.  Generally, the increase of emotional stress was associated with constant risks of hypoglycemia (Trief et al. 2013).

Concerns about child bearing issue that was identified by patients as a factor that negatively impacted their response to type 1 diabetes.  Most of the participants had specific concerns about their ability to bear and raise their children actively. Others had fears of passing their susceptible genes to their children. The patient stated that they had advices about pregnancy complications which would put their lives at risk. This stress level was associated with the threat of hypoglycemia. According to this article, the issue of hypoglycemia is identified as the worst feeling in their lives. Research indicates that this feeling is associated with great fears and anxiety. Some patients indicated that they had learnt effective coping strategies to help the patient avoid lows. This included healthy food choices, placing glucagon tablets in each room and use of insulin pump to reduce hypoglycemia intensity and frequency.  The patient partners seem to be the most worried about hypoglycemia. This is because the ‘low’ just happen at any time of the day and it is crazy. The low moment is described with increased irritability, moodiness and conflict which affects their relationship negatively and consequently affected their response and coping ability to the chronic illness (Trief et al. 2013).

Patients and their partners also highlighted about the constant looming threat of complication. The patient and their partners were terrified at the thought of blindness and amputation. Although the patients and their partners were keenly aware that they had to save organs through proper practice of the disease, most felt frustrated  especially when the doctor identified their condition as brittle or in poor control of their condition. The patient stated that when blamed for their bad diabetic condition increased their distress as they had sincere efforts to control the condition. Overall, the patients were aware of potential complications and emphasized their need for reassurance and non blaming response from their physician and their partners. The patient partners also experienced similar levels of stress and anxiety of potential complications associated with diabetes. They also identified specific challenges they went through such as battling with insurance companies, complete dependence of the patient during the hypoglycemic episodes and issues of weight control and exercise. These individual factors cumulatively resulted to higher levels of stress. This indicates that family support is associated with positive self management practices (Trief et al. 2013).

Ways the article contributes to interdisciplinary knowledge

The study was performed in order to gain a better understanding of a richer understanding of psychosocial factors that affects people diagnosed with diabetes 1. The  main themes that have emerged from this article indicates that  partner involvement vary, but the anxiety and fear levels of  hypoglycemia and future complications have a significant impact on their well being and their relationship. From this study several  behavioral human aspects in chronic illness is clear; a) relationships are unique and it is not obvious that all patients have supportive partners or are overwhelmed by the disease; b) the patient-partner relationship changes are influenced by the health demands at a particular time. This implies that healthcare providers must assess individuals relationship so as to tailor make his/her intervention based on the patient unique needs, so as to cope with the unique challenges effectively and improve their self management practices (Trief et al. 2013).

Several months ago, I had an experience that humbled me into pursuing the DPT program. I had the opportunity of accompanying my grandfather who required post-orthopedic surgery rehabilitation on one of the medical institutions within my region. I noted several people who needed knee surgeries and ankle sprain treatments and whom the organization provided guidance, education, and support to improve the quality of their lives, an aspect that changed my perception in exploring a physical therapy program. I came to the full realization that people, the likes of my grandfather required proper guidance in coping with their medical conditions, with this support only possible when the right knowledge in physical therapy is integrated into practice. This experience humbled me and established a strong desire for me to help other individuals in the society suffering from physical dysfunctions. I am convinced that the pursuit of the DPT program will provide a platform for me to be innovative in the quest for knowledge and in its application in practice, an aspect that would help me in developing efficient approaches of interacting with different patients and peers within the field.

The AIC University remains relevant for me in the achievement of my goals since the institution has created a niche for me as well as other learners in pursuing a transformative education that would impact the society. I choose to nurse as a profession because nursing is all about caring and helping people. I believe that the main focus on nursing is on the patient. A nurse is supposed to be as professional as well as humane to the patient as one can be (Black, 2014). I also believe that a nurse is supposed to focus on as fast as possible recovery of the patient. I also recognize that the main focus being on the patient is of paramount importance to the nursing profession. My vision for myself is that I would offer the best health care to the best of my ability.

To live out my philosophy as a nurse I must remember this about my patients, patient’s families and my fellow healthcare professionals. That my main focus is my patient’s well-being and ensuring that they recover as fast as possible (Black, 2014). Therefore, I must remember to offer absolute and wholesome care to all my patients. Secondly, I must remember to be respectful to the patient’s family and be helpful to my fellow healthcare professional by cooperating with them efficiently.
